Which one do you prefer as a starting trait?
Do you prefer to make your character Very Underweight or Obese for extra trait points?

Neither. I don't pick weight trait anymore because a single point missing from fitness and/or strength is a pain to regain.

Personally I prefer Very Underweight. Have tried both a number of times and ultimately it's easier to put on weight with the high calorie food than it is to burn it off.

Underweight because Diet is harder than Gain. Its better to have the full stomach perk especially if you are regularly injuring yourself.

Some servers idk whats up with them, but seems if you don't play a 9 strength 9 fitness character you are just way too weak and wasting tonnes of time waiting for energy to replenish.

Very underweight.
Obese-> removes the ability of sprinting, and even your "jogging" is ridiculously slow.

Very undweight + thin skinned + smoker + prone to illness + high thirst and you have some descent points to spend

Very underweight early game as resources are available to get you back in shape.
Certainly not Obese it severely gimps you. I would take Very Underweight, as it has the same advantages as Underweight but means you need to watch yourself a little bit more. Obese is Overweight but ten times worse. If this were between Overweight and Underweight then it would be about equal.

Overweight does have the advantage of having more weight to it so if your calories dip it wont be that much of a concern. All you gotta do is walk around to lose your weight. The main glaring problem with Overweight is the lack of mobility, if you're cornered and your escape is climbing a wall its going to be a 50/50 if you make it or not. If you're doing a 6 months later run then Overweight would be the better choice.

Underweight, all you gotta do is gorge yourself with food, watch your calories and you're good to go. You dont have those mobility problems that Overweight has and you can scale walls much easier if you need to.

Considering the pros and cons of each, both aren't bad traits. I would pick Underweight overall. Its been my go-to for quite some time now. From a gameplay and roleplay point of view. All comes down to preference really if you're experienced enough both traits aren't bad and are manageable.

Yup, Very Underweight definitely. It's easier to gain weight than lose it (+3 Weight per day instead of -1 per day when trying to lose it), and the -2 Fitness goes away on its own if you just keep active.
Also the melee penalties don't really matter. They in fact end up giving you more weapon and Maintenance skill XP, because you need to hit zombies more. :D

Underweight + Fit Athletic, can't take Fit Athletic with very underweight. ;)

Yes you can. You can't take Athletic though. :P

My guy is a chubby chubster at the outset. Makes it easier to stock up in the early game while fasting and dropping weight is trivial. Dashing occasionally helps with the conditioning. Purposefully overencumbering yourself (safely) increases strength.

Although, there's a fair debate to be had on whether it's more fun to try to min/max the traits or go with less optimal role play (or maybe in-between). Once you know the ropes I get the sense a few points won't make or break your run.

And I as a stickler saw an opportunity to stickle, so I stickled. :D

Obese.

Sure it has worse penalties and is harder to fix if you actually focus it.

The thing is, it fixes itself passively. I forget to eat constantly, i'm always hungry.

IMO much harder to fix underweight with high calories constantly than it is to just forget to eat while obese.

If you are ACTIVELY trying to fix these perks, then sure, underweight can be fixed faster, but ♥♥♥♥ that, let it do it passively, just play and forget about it. Forget about food even.

But to each their own I guess. I'd rather be building other skills while it just fixes itself passively, not wasting my time trying to find every calorie I can.

I usually go with overweight, and light eater. Can skip a lot of meals in the early game, which means more time spent fighting, and looting equipment instead of food.

First thing I look for is some seeds, then by the time I'm at a normal weight my farm is already producing more food than I'll ever need.
