Do you kill ALL zombies in an area?
I'm still new at PZ, but getting a bit more experienced by the day. I started in Rosewood. Killed all zeds in town. Difficult in the beginning, but much easier when I got better at killing zombies. And there weren't too many zombies there anyway.

Now I'm expanding my horizon and going to the Knox Prison in Rosewood. But that place is infested! So I'm starting at the entrance, killing zombies from all directions and slowly work my way to the buildings there, where even more zombies come my way. There are really a LOT of zombies out there!

So I wonder. What do you as experienced players do? Do you kill ALL zombies in an area like Knox Prison or do you try to stealth around them? And if so, how do you do that? Because zeds are really coming from everywhere!

I personally wouldn't hang about at the prison or disturb too much of it. its possible you can get coax them out of the building with the guns. But personally thats as far as i go. Its a bit of a nightmare and if you have to bolt the guard towers are not safe without a vehicle blocking the door.

Are you saying that Knox Prison is one of the most infested places to go to in all cities of PZ, including Louisville?

Edit: Oh, I should have read the pzwiki first. It says:

The prison is one of the most dangerous places in Knox Country. The facility has a massive zombie population, and the cramped rooms and hallways make it rather difficult for survivors to maneuver past hordes inside the prison. Most of the zombie population at the prison are the guards and inmates. https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Kentucky_State_Prison

But still, what do you do with such a high infested area? Clear out all zombies first?

I usually just ignore zombies that are not actively following me. I loot while keeping an eye out. If something comes at me I just kill it real quick and go back to looting. I will only go for a full area clear if I plan on bringing a vehicle in for a major haul or clearing an area for a base.

I usually use car sirens to draw out the zombies to the opposite side of the building when clearing out locations with too many inside.

I'm honestly surprised you were able to clear Rosewood without bringing damn near half of the prison population down on you while you were still in town. I've had some unfortunate experiences with the helicopter event in that place. Granted, insane population setting, but still....

I'll clear high population areas until I get to Aiming 10. Then I start being more efficient with my guns & ammo, usually using a suppressor on a lower caliber gun so I can do ninja stuff.

If you want an open air high infestation area, go to the Crossroads Mall after peak population has hit. There will be 10 000+ zombies out there.

Honestly in an area like the prison I just don't even bother. There's plenty to find there but nothing in my opinion worth the risk and expenditure of resources. It just feels like a net loss. I suppose an argument could be made to do it just for the sake of clearing the area, sort of a completionist thing, but outside that, no.

It may really depend on your personal goals and what you find fun. I generally would never consider visiting the prison unless it was a personal challenge or something.

Base building is a fun way to go and the prison is a cool location, it's just too big for a play through for me to use.

Killing zombies is fun. It can be a great area for you to test out dealing with large groups or doing big burns.

I've generally been playing with a 'only what i can carry' style of play lately. A wanderer in the wastes.

You can practice relocating zombies. See how many you can get to follow you out into the woods then ditch them. Just beware of how they are rearranged after reloads.

The helicopter event just 'happened' to me on day 6 when I was looting the top floors of the shopping street at Rosewood. I was totally unexperienced, but I've read about the event and just hid and waited for 24 hours in some bedroom. Before I knew it the helicopter sound was gone and I came out. Never saw one zombie. Normal settings. More luck and ignorance than wisdom, lol. :steamhappy:

I'm not using guns yet, because it attracts too much zombies. I only use an axe, draw single or a few zombies from a horde and time my strikes well. But that takes a long time to clear an area. So therefore my question: do you clear ALL zombies?

I understand that now. I thought it wouldn't be that difficult, since it was near Rosewood which is suggested a good starting area for newbies, lol. Ignorance is bliss.

Definitely. I don't want to build a base in the prison. Just hoping for loot that I don't already have and levelling up XP. But it's also my first real encounter with larger groups of zombies. So for me as an inexperienced player it's definitely worthwhile.

It's a sandbox game so whatever floats your boat but I don't think default difficulty envisioned a game where the goal is to clear zeds from every town. If you clear out whatever cell you start in, it won't start to repopulate unless you leave for over 3 days.

Personally, I mostly play with slow respawn setting. So yes, I will clean up an area so I can enjoy the BGMs that only play when there are no zombies around. But I take my time to do it.

As for Rosewood Prison specifically, I use that place to power level aiming. Just bring a shotgun and a lot of shells, and start blasting. I can easily level up from level 4 to level 7 as a police officer with fast learner and hunter traits.

I'm not trapped in a world with zombies. They're trapped in a world with me :partyknife:

Impossible. Only when the chopper brings too many friends will i start my killing sprees:)
