Must Have Rooms for Base
Hello! I always run into this creative barrier when decorating my base.
I hoard tons of items, just to end up with a unorganized, confusing and ugly base. Overall quite unpleasant experience.

So I want to begin by the basics and go up step by step.
Starting with the rooms that a long term base must have.
So far I can only think of these:
  • Armory (Lockers and tables for firearms display)
  • Library/Office (Bookshelves with all books from Vol.1to5, all recipe magazines, 1 of each map, office stuff cabinet (pens, erasers, paper clips etc), office desk with computer)
  • Living Room (TV, sofas, coffee table, bookshelves for VHS, CDs... and toys/collectibles??)
  • Kitchen (Counters, oven, microwave, fridge, ice freezer, plumbed sink
  • Washer Room (Clothwashing/drying machine (plumbed), few counters for plumbing and cleaning tools (for when zombies bleed indoors), and maybe a sink)
  • Garage (Metal shelves for tools. Maybe boxes too. Thats it)
  • Farm (Outdoors, with metal shelf for tools and seeds, composter and rain barrels)
  • Bar (For the 2000 cubic meters of alcohol I hoarded and never drank)
  • Bedroom (Double bed, wardrobe, counter... what more?)
  • Medic Room (Counters, hospital and medic decors, etc)
  • Materials Storage Room
  • Melee Storage Room
Am I missing something extra that I could have in my base?
Next big step for me would be actually decorating by placing the 3D item models, instead of putting everything inside containers.

an Infirmary..

Well

many of the 3D item models can be dumped. Some annoying servers may clean them up. So it that can't be done. :( but stuff like piles of wood and scrap metal, or spears place in straight line weapons on tables. sometimes a pile of clothes.
sometimes certain items are quicker access left out cooking implements and some specific food items benefit the most. Junk items can be left out wine glass plate may aswell set them up it is useful to nobody inside a container.
infrimary and med gear is my least favourite to manage unless its compact and inside a medical bag. having a museum of meds not that useful.

Certain item relevant category. Nails with Axes, Axes with Saws. Toches and Propanes should fill one half a metal shelf, while metal sheets and bars themselves fill the other.

for food
Cake materials Flour, Sugar, jam, Marmilade, Chocolate, Chocolate chip, Milk Condensed, other likewas for the same meal. eat at sam spot
for other meal. accumulaion of can generic one location.
accumulation of candy go outside of kitchen another location
cubpaord.
Sum other Rule must be follow to hav clean organised house
you must follow the rules
or end in the position you have found.
For me personally I have a sort of drop box area right next to my garage so that I can come in from looting, dump all my stuff, and then continue on with what I'm doing. I try to save my sorting of loot and my tailoring skill ups for rainy days.

You might also want to consider a trapping area 80 squares out from your base that's walled off and has traps in it. If you only have a farm it's hard to keep calories up. 2 Bird, 2 Rabbit, and 2 Cabbage will make you a fattening meal while also giving you happiness. Plus the extra protein gives you a multiplier to strength and fitness XP if/when you workout.

I mean, that's all you need for basic necessities.
All that's left is decorating them with knick knacks as you said.
You can style your kitchen as fast food deli, for example.

For extra decoration, you can try having your own boutique.
This is where tailoring related things are located. You can set up mannequins to display your prized getup, put up clothing racks for backup clothes, and so on.
You can even set it adjacent to your laundry room to make it look more posh.

You can also do these for even more decorations:
- Make an area for outdoor barbecue.
- Maybe steal some military tent from LV's checkpoint to create your "survivor radio shack".
- Loot some hedges and lawn decorations to make your own.
- Make a generator shed to keep the generators out of sight.
- Make your own ranch in preparation for B42.
Could have a collectables room for collecting things like plushies. Maybe a war room or a trophy room, display old weapons that have been through hell and back. Have the room covered in blood like some psychopath for a macabre look.

Maybe have a museum room in general, with documents on your journey and items you collect along the way that tell a story.

Potential is boundless, the limit being your imagination and with a game like Zomboid that gives you this creative freedom for emergent story-telling and environmental story-telling it can be however you want.

Could dot the land-scape with graves as a warning to other survivors "Dont come here, we're badasses" like those heads on sticks in the middle ages or that one scene in the Walking Dead.

I swear I'm not psycho... unless the person deserves it. Totally not psycho (but you'll want us as friends regardless).
