Nice! Did you hold up in the city or live off in the outskirts of town where there is a less population of the dead?

Longest? 3 years 2 months, and still going. I don't think that character will ever die unless I forget to pause while I go refill my coffee, get sidetracked and he starves to death.

Nearly a year, made it to mid winter, some crates of potato and rabbit in the freezer , dident die, just stopped playing. figured B42 would be out "soon" and didn't want to build a big base for it to be unplayable... three months later i wonder how big i could have made it.
cant get back into it for the same reason. Not death, damnation to purgatory.

Grow potato's on a rooftop. Use carrots for rabbits. make lots of snares and cage traps

I'm assuming you've scraped every town clean at this point?

Not even close. I like self sufficiency, so I looted what I needed and made myself at home in one of the nicer houses in Muldraugh. I have a fairly risk averse playstyle.

Not that long all things considered for me. Just 1 year each time, i just cannot bring myself to keep playing any run once the next fall begins. There's just not enough currently in the build to keep me interested that long personally, and eventually the murder hoboing gets tedious and i just boot up another game and leave PZ for a few months.

I play on 16x with insanely rare loot but no zombie respawn and i usually set myself goals like clearing a town or two, but eventually i just need to get away from this game. When i come back to PZ, i usually have 0 desire to go back to one of those previous saves.

Any tips for long term survival? What kept you so focused to survive 3+ years and counting, I can never get past 6 months before getting ridiculously bored and unmotivated lol

I play other games as well. I guess that's what keeps me from burning out on it. I've had this run going since...maybe April?

As far as basic survival, well find (or make) a safe place to sleep, a safe source of water and a renewable source of food. For water, most people (myself included) look for a stove and get a generator to power it once the lights go out. Other options include a microwave (but this limits the water containers you can use), the antique stove (can be hard to find) or just a campfire. Tap water is fine until it gets turned off, then you're best bet is rain collection or a nearby pond or river. If you want to collect rainwater then you are going to want to get carpentry going well before you really NEED it. As far as food goes, I don't fish, I find it a waste of in game time. Trapping gives you way better food and once you set the traps you're free to go do other things until the next morning. Farming is practically essential (long term), but it's slow so get started early.

That's all short term though, you probably know all of that. Long term, is deceptively simple. Don't take risks you don't have to. If you see a zed, ask yourself "what do I have to gain by killing it?", followed by "is this worth potentially dying for?"

Very wise and informative, thank you I just gotta figure something to do to help prolong the end game experience. :)

Little over a year.

Character did not die, the server I played on had just been running for so long it needed to wipe.

2 years, and did not die just left it since there was nothing else to do. Started adding hardcore mods

I've had characters live for about 6 months or longer, but the run didn't end because I died, it was because I was just bored and out of things to do.

My current is a CD DA challenge character that's so far survived 5 months, 9 days, and 9 hours with 11142 zeddies killed.

The only reason I'm even still playing this save is because I'm still searching everywhere for that damn generator magazine to call this challenge completed to facilitate full self sustain.

For tips on long term survival it comes down to understand the game and what your character can and cannot do.

Players can be extremely skilled at the game, and get themselves killed because while they might be very good at the game, their CHARACTER is a fresh spawn with no world experience. In order to facilitate your experience into your character, you need to allow them time to develop.

1. Pick a good character build, what perks you pick, will affect how much your EXP modifier is for whatever respective skills that perk accentuates. This is HUGE for long term play.

For instance, Taking Gymnast trait will give you a passive EXP modifier to Sprinting and Nimble, nimble being one of THE most overlooked skills in the game, that is arguably one of the most difficult to grind up, so picking an EXP modifier for it is massive for your mid and late game as it makes killing hordes more breathable.

2. Treat every situation cautiously. This game is out to kill you. Always check sides, behind, and clear any hordes that may be within an area before running into a small home where you have no room to navigate combat. (or piper them away )

3. Weigh risks to rewards. You don't really need to loot every single warehouse and POI that you think. You can easily manage this game with basic tools and weapons provided you've allowed yourself time to build weapon skills.

4. Maintenance is super important.

5. You don't need to rush carpentry to get rain collectors, you can survive for months living off the finite supply of water in town out of facets and water bottles for a while, even with the high thirst trait.

You will collect a lot of water bottles, glasses, cups, sauce pans, buckets, and cooking pots which can be used to collect rain water, or fill up from any source. Always fill them up and bring them back with you for storage. Since purified water never goes back without a mod ~

5 - A ) Because Water Dispensers exist, and are still extremely overpowered, they provide more water capacity than the level 1 rain collector.

6. Know when to run - Don't tough it out.

7. Carry around plastic chairs with you and position them around in areas you're about to engage so you can quickly run to them, rest/sit on ground (hold shift to sit down/ get up fast) [[ double endurance recover]] Even the first tier of exhaustion reduces your damage by 50%, carrying chairs around with you is very helpful if you're like me and you sprint everywhere.

8. Mobility is king. Don't overload yourself.

9. invest in foraging and fishing. Trapping is is not even necessary.

and lastly probably the most important is using Time Speed up (usually in the instances of resting) is going to be one of the main ways you get yourself killed.

I agree with most of this except the water and fishing.
