Is it just me or many crafting skills are useless?
Especially at high levels. Let's break it down.

Carpentry seems like the most useful one for me. Easy to make large storage containers. Rain barrels. And base building for those who don't want to claim a building.

Cooking gives you some small bonuses to your calories count as it gets higher.

Farming is useful if you don't want to loot for food. Otherwise food is plentiful.

First aid does nothing.

Electrical is useless beyond the first level I think. For hotwiring. You need the magazine to operate generators. Huge grind.

Metalworking is a pain to level if you don't have enough propane. You can fix up the bodywork on cars but cars are plentiful. The boxes are better than the carpentry ones. But the grind.

Mechanics. Again, cars are everywhere. Get to level 2 by breaking down random cars and you can have any car you want.

Tailoring can save you from a surprise attack with the extra padding.

i made a huge thing about first aid but the TL:DR is that add more emphasis on wound severity "minor, middle and severe" so that each one requires slightly more focus/time/treatment and then add more ways to getg injured without zombo's so things like nail traps on windows/fences, brambles that can hurt you while moving slow through bushes (with lowered chances if you crouch and have light footed skill) poison ivy that gives you rashes without adequate hand, arm and leg coverage, blisters, rashes from to many layers of clothing for long periods of time and then maybe some long term ailments that require specific meds to help control like chest infection (you know the flemish cough type) allergy traits and my personal experienced one, eczema trait

these alone would give help pad out first aid greatly till we have NPC's and animals to injure us more

But all in all 2 planks maintain vision thru that window
sometimes u want vision and just use curtains
Dont get me wrong i like planks
but playing bars on metal worker is very weak under-level.
Like a few zombies weak.
Howeveer they seem to hold up sturdily with groups of 3 on the same wall panel, and gate for a decent number of attacks like that. given you respond to all attacks. that attacks are noticed.

I think you need electrical for the Drier and Washing machine, I dont remember. Many fancy wall lights and some of the nice stuff wants electrical. As there is no advantage to crafted Radio, its kind of weak skill. Remote noise maker, Its just playing around really.
Everyone can get the smoke bomb, and idk if u can remote the smoke bomb.
Still these loots like Cold Pack, like Sparklers, Hairspray more common, but making that stuff is just a beast of work. Smoke Bomb lol.

Moving Plants isn't that great.
Because the plants don't really help
Though the hedges one after the other does slow a regular zombie down to a walking pace. But it is not that meaningful. And too difficult to make a funnel of hedges for the situation to exist where a zombie will walk down a channel of hedges in order to follow you.
I mean

They need work for sure those professions.
Metal Work i believe will be on the up, because i'd say its playable and fun to explore the options there. Even tho some options are lacking like stairs.
Electrical just needs level 5 and up options.
and if it can do up to a level 7 option
then that would be great.

My Mitch the Potted Plant is going in a Pottery 1 pot and wither away in a week.

Poor Mitch.

Idk I’m pretty clumsy and when I fall off my roof after installing a rain collector barrel and fracture my leg, I appreciate having high first aid so I can heal fast :)

Don't worry about Mitch.
He's a fake plant.

But he ended up dying because I didn't pretend to water him.

My thought on higher level pottery would be the ability to make glazed pots that hold water better, are stronger, and allow for foods to be preserved for longer. Maybe you won't be able to make a pot suitable for fermenting/pickling otherwise. Koreans used to bury jars of cabbage in a brine mixture to make kimchi then dig it up a few months later.

If the pot isn't strong enough or is poorly made I can imagine the pickling failing and the food is ruined. Maybe you dig the pot up and it's broken. Just some ideas.

It's true that their usefulness is far lesser than the effort you must put into them. Some have their niche use, but in the long run, none is exactly a game changer. I'll be hard pressed and I bet most players will be too trying to find a scenario where they could've made it, should a given skill had a few more levels on it.

There is ofc a few outliers that are simply useless, period, like first aid and metalwork.

First-aid doesn't mean much in game where 9 out of 10, getting injured by any means is usually followed by death.

Metalwork is useless when you require 3x the work for 25% the benefit.

IMO, skills that come from professions just exist because they needed a game-y mechanic in place. 70% of them could be reduced to a trait/magazine llike the generator skill and call it a day.

Tailoring can save you from a surprise attack with the extra padding.

Carpentry is easy to utilize. The resources are plentiful and just watching the VHS can take you to lvl 7.

Cooking lets you spot and/or hide poison in food too.

First Aid is pretty useless, since all you need to stop the health loss from any injury is a dirty ripped sheet. Farming is more useful for health, since the largest healing bonus you get is from being well fed.

Electrical is an easy grind, just get like 2000 zombies worth of wrist watches. But this skill is more useful for PVP, and if you take the Engineer profession. Since that lets you make motion sensor pipe bombs to turn other players into loot drops.

Metalwork only needs 5 propane tanks to be maxed out. So find 5 bbqs and you're set. Finding all the books takes longer. Easy grind for the best storage containers in the game.

Not all cars are equal. You want ones with an engine Quality, not necessarily Condition, of 90%+. Then if you find 100%, treat it like gold, because that engine will always start. So being able to take performance parts off lesser vehicles and put them onto a good vehicle is worthwhile. Also an easy grind, just take parts off and put them back on every 24 hours.

Tailoring: If you need armor for PVE, you're doing it wrong.
