removing broken glass does not remove the broken window (frame). u need to remove the broken window (frame) the same way you removed the replacement window (frame). Then the replacement can be installed.
Thank you guys, i forgot that I had to remove the old window frame as well, before placing the new one and i couldnt find that info on the pzwiki. That has solved my trouble. The house has now all the windows it had before.
Pleez. Explain to me like I'm 5. Is this in the Carpentry menu? Object interaction ?
Here is a point form list of every step to replace a broken window:
1) Before you begin, make sure your carpentry skill is at least 2. If necessary you can raise your carpentry skill by watching the Woodcraft show in TV, disassembling wooden furniture, or crafting things that need/hammer/saw/nails. Reading the carpentry vol1 book will help you gain carpentry experience faster up to level 2.
2) You will need both a Crowbar and a Hammer (regular, Ballpeen, or stone is fine). Make sure these are in your character's inventory before you begin.
3) To begin, you need to remove the broken window. To do this, move your character so they are standing in front of the broken window. Click on the furniture icon on the top left of the UI. (The furniture icon is the picture of the dresser; below the hammer icon and above the magnifying glass). When you click on the furniture icon, it will expand to give you four options: pickup, place, rotate and disassemble. Choose "pickup" (the furniture icon with the green arrow pointing upwards) and click on the broken window)
4) You will then hear a hammering sound and see a progress bar as your character removes the broken window.
5) Next, you need to install the new window. To get a new window, find an intact window, click the "pickup" furniture icon again, and your character will begin removing the intact window. Note that depending on your character's carpentry skill, there is a chance your character will break the window. If this happens, find another intact window and try it again. It may take you a few tries until your character is able to pickup an intact window without breaking it instead.
6) Once your character has been able to get an intact window, go back to the location where you wanted to replace the window. Click on the furniture icon at the top left of your screen again. Instead of "pickup", choose "place" this time (the furniture icon with the green arrow pointing downwards). Move the cursor to the windowsill where you want the replacement window to be installed. Click on it to place the replacement window and your character will then install the replacement window.
Thats about it. A few things to note:
- windows are heavy and cumbersome, so make sure there are no nearby zombies that might disturb you when you are doing this
- not all windows can be replaced (most of the windows of the rosewood police station, the windows by the exercise area in the firestation are examples of this). However, most windows including the ones on the houses near the fire station are replaceable, so no worries in your case.
- There are different types of windows (wooden windows, tiled windows, etc). You can use any of them, but if you want the replacement window to look the same as the other windows on the house, make sure the replacement window you use looks the same.
I tried to make this as detailed as possible. Hope it helps :)
