What kind of food do you bring on long trips?
Thinking of spending multiple days in LV clearing zombies, but my base is so far away in west point.

So what kind of food should i bring along that will last me for a long time, and hopefully be simple to eat/prepare, etc?

Bunch of fish, cook and throw them in a fridge in a small outpost.
Doesn't require much time, 0 skill is possible, can be done with spear (so near free), and will help with weight loss due to long fights.

I mainly play heavily modded games so it depends

When I expect to go on much longer trips I tend to bring a few MREs to keep my calories and food needs up and extra water (I play with high thrist)

When it's just a day trip and I'll come back I pack away a meal like a stir fry

You shouldn't need to take much with u as plenty of supplies will be found.
I would literally take a sandwich for the drive and a bottle of orange soda

I would go with mac and cheese/cereals as a fair base, light and 2 will cover a days intake of food, as animalman says i wouldnt take to much, but comes down to your settings if on max pop it can take a little while to get food depending on where you are heading. if in riverside you can basically just be fine with 2 days of supplies in the gated community. I wouldnt bring fish to heavy pr hunger, go with light weight and large hunger.

It depends but what i can say is don't bring anything canned. The weight to worth ratio on those is too much if you aren't bringing them home. I'd say bring the bare minimum you'd feel comfortable with, going for a combo of low weight to decent hunger and scavenge while you are there. If you are already going far away to scav it's a always good idea to make a first trip to a food heavy location.

Forget food. Use that space for gear... Food shouldn't be a problem in LV unless you've nerfed it's availability... One neighborhood will feed you for months.

There's a lot to kill you in Louisville but starvation won't be one.

If you want an easy start off point there's a motel with a pool in the SW by a highway. It's a decent and fairly safe base to begin exploring the big city.

If you're worried about being out so long that food will start to go stale, the obvious answer is just to bring some canned food and a can opener. If your food settings are not turned all the way down, you could just bring the can opener and rely on luck of the loot to find canned food along the way.

The second best option is to bring something freshly frozen so that it buys you some extra spoilage time while it slowly thaws. This all depends on what stage of the game you're in and what sort of food you've already stored.

A few bags of chips (low weight/high calories) and some bottles of water. Water is generally not a problem if you go to another town as there is probably water left in the sinks.

If ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan, you can always go foraging, even on normal abundance, you get lots of stuff to eat, and it respawns regularly.

He is correct. for a serious bit of advise.
When u are set up. Sometimes u will on a normal day not doing anything special
u might eat breakfast, then take the frozen item out for lunch. Is great when u have a game going where u have pre-cooked some meals. Or if you have a farm going and you took a couple of frozen cabbages out for lunch.

It does depend aswell on the Hearty Appetite.

Hunger moodle bothers me quite a bit even at peckish i like to keep it deep green as often as possible. So for a serious bit of advise i use to take out a cooking pot meal already done and cooked. And then some small extra. Coz i figured when i get there it might get a bit touch and go so having at least one cooking implement is useful.

But most importantly i would actually pack enough water and a spare water. If it was a MP and the city may be dry, because it could be on MP. Then you might pack seriously for a trip like this.

If you want to spend days in a single town, why not set up a farm while you are at it? The mansions near Ohio river are perfect to stay in for your incursion.

You'll have the entire LV loot table at your disposal. I strongly recommend "Water goes Bad" mod so you actually have to manage thirst over hungry once water is drained from the sinks and stuff.. As some said above, bring extra can openers and cereals, so you can leave a few in the place you take shelter in, you know, in case you die when you go further into LV.

How do you guys have fun fishing and cooking is still a mistery to me, maybe in MP is fun to poison your friends lol...
