Player Data in the save file?
So I just got eaten alive on my 10 month old character, but I have a backup i made about 4 days ago of the save, I know the save is in C/Users/zomboid/save/sandbox, but inside that save file i was wondering which files i would need to copy (such as the player database file maybe?) from the backup to the existing save so that it resurrects my character and that I don't lose 4 days of progress, if this is even possible to do without breaking the entire save file, If it's not possible then it's not that big of an issue since I just lose about 4 days of progress but if it is then that would be great.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that there is probably a way to hack this together, but 4 days out of 10 months? I'd take the loss. I back up my saves, but IMO if you're going to do it, the best way is to set a self-imposed schedule so that the game retains risk. I used to try to backup every day, then it was every other day, etc..

I haven't backed up my current game in over a week. I think once per week is optimal.

(But are you talking 10 months & 4 days in game or in real time?)

Player characters are saved in thier own file, so I guess you could just take that from your backup and overwrite that same file in your current save.
The name of the file should be players.db.
Do another backup of your current save, though, just to be on the save side.

But this is the point of zomboid? Why resurrect. Get mods if you wanna save your progress

If it's single player let them do whatever the hell they want.

Just make more frequent save back ups. Make one for each day of in game progress or at checkpoints you set for yourself. I wouldn't try messing with them if I was you. The save folders are kinda complicated to start picking apart. The players status data, location data as well as kill count, ect. Trying to seperate the files could easily end up breaking your save altogether and lose everything.

I've had the world for about 2 years, i almost never die anymore, the last time i died was about 2 months ago but i do as you say of making a backup every week, so when i say 4 days i mean 4 real life days of data lost, but ingame it's been 10 months. so it's annoying but not the end of the world then, I'll just load the backup save.
