If you're scared to walk to these locations what I would recommend is to take a gas can with you and start checking cars. Any cars you can't find a key for see if it has gas and siphon from it. Eventually you'll get enough gas to fill up a car you have a key for and get it started
If all the safe cars have no gas and you don't feel comfortable with fighting a horde to get to new cars or a gas station then I recommend luring
With no negative moodles your default walk speed is faster than the zombies so as long as you only save Sprinting/Jogging to get out of sticky situations you can gather all the zombies into a giant ball and lead then away from your loot location. Then once you break line of sight with the deathball via either trees or a house you can crouch and go perpendicular from where the zombies will have last seen you. Travel a good distance and make your way back. Just watch out for stragglers when you go back to the area you wish to loot
Secondly, if you plan to remain settled in Rosewood consider placing a generator at one of the fuel stations so that you can use them. (You'll need a generator and the magazine to use them). Rationale for this is that pumps only work with power, but tend to have a lot more fuel than cars. If your fuel supply is as dire as you suggest, it may be worth spending what you have on gaining a larger supply of fuel rather than burn it all on transportation.
Of course the last point mainly matter if you're planning to remain in Rosewood. If you're planning to migrate somewhere else you may once again have enough cars close at hand to siphon more fuel, which could warrant burning your reserves on getting there.
That gas station gets pretty rammed with zeds in total honesty
a lot accumulate up that ends.
The car park sometimes not so bad.
Nowadays you can siphon without a Gas can,
you can use a plastic bottle, So if you had maybe 4 or 6 bottles you might be able to get a nice yield from it.
Its not unusual for the cars to be empty on normal settings. But once you get one you'll be resupplying it faster because of the mobility it provides.
If u can get to the pump that is great. But if you can't yeah go for the Gigamart carpark.
If not out the back of the parade of shops across from the giga are more car parks to try.
Don't worry about the chase just go there with decent energy if u had option coffee before hand.

Most cars will be a beat up car with no gas, but if you are lucky, you will find what's called survivor car. These cars will be in a fairly good condition and has near full tank.
Best if you try to find a gas can while the electricity is still running (Gas station's storage usually has one), then head immediately to a gas station to fill that can. You can use that to power a generator later that can get the station running again.
If you didn't do that before, you are pretty ♥♥♥♥ out of luck. You can only do what Quill suggested above.
I agree with Quill. The Drive-In Theater south of town, across from the southern gas station is probably the closest thing to guaranteed vehicles. The default vehicle availability is brutal though, so don't be surprised if it's more of the same bad luck. The most dangerous part of the walk will likely be the tree-lined diagonal road after passing the construction site. The trees are tight to the road, so there's not a lot of room for evasive action and you can't tell how many might be in the trees.
An alternate route would be to cut across the field, southwest of the construction site.. you'll still have some encounters but there is more space to see your surroundings. Going that way will allow you to get a glance at the rest stop and the gas station, before heading across the street to the Drive-In.
Once you get a vehicle, you could gather as many gas cans and bottles as possible and try the crossroads between Rosewood and Muldraugh. There is a traffic jam there that is a mixture of burned out vehicles, wrecks and junks.. there is a good chance you will at least be able to siphon gas.
A tip about car parts: Since it takes a bit to get Mechanics leveled, you should check the wrecks whenever you find them and make note of any useful parts. Junks will be drivable but overall bad condition, but the undrivable wrecks will have slightly higher condition parts and many will have one or two 100% condition parts. You can mark them on your map for later.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for the VHS tapes called Carzone. There are 3 episodes that will give you some Mechanics XP.
Good luck!
Still not made the long trek on foot to a petrol station yet, but did find two cars with petrol I could syphon outside the Rosewood courthouse.
But now I cannot figure out how to add it to my generator!
However, you need to turn the generator off (if you have it running) before you can fuel it
And no. You cannot take fuel out of a Generator
