Mod problem I can't ID - Character can't hold items/weapons properly
I have an odd problem that I assume is coming from some mod, but I can't figure out which it is. Maybe someone would know where I can look, or in the debugger.

What's happening is my character can't properly switch items/weapons. He'll wind up with the item stuck to his hand, but not held properly, and if I go into AIM mode, the item will be replaced with the previous item he was holding and THAT will function. The same thing will happen if I hit escape: it switches back to the previous item.

I've disabled every mod having to do with items on the belt, as well as every mod having to do with guns.

This selection of mods (a long list) worked for the Beta 41-- but their might be some few changes.

Any pointers or suggestions welcome and appreciated.

You did the right thing so far, removing Mods to try and isolate. If the issue goes away in vanilla settings, you can just add Mods back in a couple at a time to see when/if the issue reappears. Then once isolated, contact the Mod Developer to ask about that. Check to see if there's any documented conflicts. Could also be that you have out of Date Mods so something to check I suppose..?

Yeah. There may be some out-of-date, but I seriously use SO. MANY. I did think of going back to zero and adding one or two at a time, but before I did that, I thought I'd see if someone knew a good way to use the debugger to identify where the issue may be occurring.

Is this solo or multiplayer? I think I remember I trigger this issue sometimes in multiplayer if I have a two handed weapon attached to my back and try to exercise and it fails to put it away properly so I get stuck with an empty hand but at the top left says I'm still holding it.

Though a list of mods could also go faster if someone already knew this issue directly.

This is in solo. I just went and backed out all the mods and I'm gonna do it the hard way.

I think there was some sling mod that was doing this, but I'm not 100% sure what the name of the mod was.

Oh! I do have a sling mod. I'll try adding that one first to see if it breaks things.

The hard way is the only way sadly.

and sadly just because a mod has nothing to do with items or weapons or whatever...it still edits game code and who knows what one thing can do to another thing?

good luck!

@Death -- You were absolutely correct! It was the Rifle Sling mod-- it was out-of-date, and there are several replacements. I wish I'd waited about an hour longer to disable all my mods. Ahh, well.

(Mock Hurt Voice) But I said check the outa dates first.. (Pouty Face)

The dates/version isn't easy to check for most of the mods, though.
