Right now the game is mostly "make your own adventure" in a fully dynamic world full of random set pieces, possibilities and of course zombies :)
The proper campaign will be some time still, so if you are only interested in a fully fledged out story mode, check back in a few months.
I will wait until official campaign release, btw this game support coop multiplayer?
By the way, there is a fully fleshed out skill system in PZ with lots of useful stuff for building and crafting.
The new systems will be robust enough to allow the construction of complex stories the player can take part in, like possibly join different factions, radiant missions, and follow clues to different set pieces much like Days Gone. They already mentioned a job priority system like in Rimworld, so we'll probably be able to build and manage our own band of NPC survivors and compound like in State of Decay. Of course we won't know for sure until the update drops, but it's looking pretty great so far.
