Need help removing a mod from local server
I'm hosting a multiplayer server (not dedicated) for me and some friends. We're currently playing with a lot of workshop mods which are working great, with the exception of one.

The "Better Towing" mod has suddenly become a detriment to gameplay as it's destroying our vehicles/trailers, making them practically impossible to use. Trailers are now permanently attached to the vehicles we towed them with. They slingshot back to the vehicle when you drive away with the trailer completely detached. It'll damage everything in it's path and possibly even kill one of us. We've troubleshooted and tried every idea we could think of in-game. Tons of other people are reporting this problem too on the mod's page, but no fix is said yet. The mod is just downright broken and it seems to be highly unlikely that it will be updated to fix this.

Is it possible to remove this mod from the server? I've tried to simply unsubscribe from the mod, but when I go to launch the server, it gives me a prompt that I HAVE to download it to continue playing our game. I don't see it in the Steam workshop or mods list in the server settings either.

Any help would be appreciated, as it would be extremely annoying to have to restart our entire playthrough because of one broken workshop mod. Thank you!

Adding mods mid-game is usually fine, but removing them will break the game more often than not. Better Towing hasn't been maintained for some time, it causes issues even in SP and it's definitely not MP compatible at all.

You could try editing your server files to purge it from the mod list, but I think it'll just break your server completely. At least it broke my SP game when I removed it, it couldn't be loaded anymore. So I guess you either have to wait for the mod to be updated, stop towing stuff or just bite the bullet and start over.

Thanks for the reply, I'll make some backup files and try what you mentioned.

My workaround was to not tow with a vehicle that I don't want to loose and to not tow if I plan to untow and drive away. It seems that once everyone leaves the cell the towing car and the towed car/trailer stood on and you return after a while the link between them is reset and you don't have to fear the slingshot bug anymore.

That was going to have to be our workaround until I fixed it just now. Deleted and removed some files in the directory and server settings, the mod is completely gone and everything is back to normal.

Can you list what files you removed?

Unsubscribe from the mod, go into your Project Zomboid Workshop directory in steamapps and delete "2241990680"

Then make sure that the workshop ID and "Towing Cars" is not showing in both your Mod/Steam Workshop list in the server settings. If they are, click Remove on the tab.

Completely purged it and everything seems to be fine now, we can continue to play our server without the mod.
