Going on a long trip how to maintain base
I have a pretty well established base in Maldraugh and want to go explore other parts of the map. However, I have freezers full of food and my generators will only last for about 7 days. Is there a way to leave my base running for a long period of time without losing electricity and having my food go bad? I tried stacking multiple generators but they all still only show running for 7 days each.

The map isn't terribly big, you're just gonna have to keep track and drive home every few days.

This is why I play on 2 hours days. If you want to realistically get stuff done without feeling pressured too much.

Your only real recourse is to pare down what you're storing. You have multiple freezers; Reduce that down, and your fuel will last longer. Prioritize the more important/fresher stuff. Also turn off/remove all other power consumers, like lights, to minimize load.

Edit: Perhaps split your fridges up between the generators entirely, Say you have 4 full fridges, place your second generator far enough away that it's not sharing the same load/house as the first, and move two of your fridges to it so that you have two distinct generators running on their own fuel.

Ah yes very good advice. I did not even think about that. I also installed a solar panels mod. Hopefully that helps a bit.

In my case, I usually make a few dishes to fit in the car trunk and bring a backup generator as well.
Then I just have to turn off the generator in the main base and toss leftovers to the composter.
And in the new place, I immediately seek out fridges to stuff the dishes inside and power it up.

small tip that i don’t think anyone else mentioned: multiple generators in the same area won’t stack, it just wastes fuel and generator condition

Freezers plural? Don't. It was going to go bad anyway. At most, I maintain one ICE box and a regular fridge. More isn't worth the gas. One regular fridge and a few lights can run for well over a week on one tank of gas. When I road trip I typically just chuck the oldest stuff into composting and move the rest into a regular fridge/freezer before disassembling the ice box. Potatoes last for weeks so I might even leave those out.

Torch it, you don't have to worry for your base if you got no base:)
(Imagine that meme that usually folks use for such sentenses:P)

Dunno, for me regular fridges were never worth it. 2 Freezers is better than a freezer and a fridge. Yeah it is a bit annoying that you either leave it to unfreeze, or cook it to unfreeze faster. But either way works.

For OP:
But actually 7 days lasting for a genny is quite good. So you will have all the time you need, in worst case you have to go back one or two times to pour gas in the genny, but still at least you can unload and get some additional food or weapons whatever you need:)

I agree with the criticism of multiple freezers, but only on default settings. If you set your food spoilage to slow and refrigerator efficiency to very high, it's worth having 2 freezers. If you set it to very slow and very high, it's barely worth having 3 and you will probably still have stuff going stale before you can eat it.

However my main point would simply be that if you have a base, there isn't really a good reason to be gone for longer than 2 days-- 3 at the most. You can easily load up a step van in a single day, so being gone for a whole week just doesn't make practical sense to me. If you're going to go temporarily nomad like that (being gone for over a week) it's best to just empty out the freezers and shut the generators off.

Yea there's multiple solutions to this, trying to keep the base going while you're gone for a long time is not really the answer.

Trick is if you're already looted everything around your main base and it's location is no longer of value, prepare a new home base at the new location you want to goto, returning to the original base every few days at least. Once the new base is ready, transfer what you want from your old base to your new base and then turn off generator when you leave for good.

Three points that weren't mentioned yet:

1) Recently I've seen a mod that allows generators to stack. If you use mods then maybe you'd want that one.
2) The sandbox settings have an option to tone down how quickly generators burn through fuel.
3) You can create another character in a singler player save and have it sitting in your base, so you can just log in and tend to your generator.
