That's what I've mostly been doing, I wasn't sure if that was good enough, and I thought maybe some people here would have some creative solutions. I only learned about the corpse rot because I couldn't figure out why I was sick and was frantically trying to find an answer, lol.
Burning them is an option, but can be risky. I have never done it but I know others have died by accidentally starting themselves on fire. Graves are an option. I think you can fit 5 corpses per grave? Something like that. I know it's more than 1. Graves are good if you don't want to move them really far.
It's best to lure them out of the way when you can, but obviously you're not going to have that luxury most of the time.
If you kill a bunch inside a building and aren't going to empty it out, it's best to get what you need out of the building and don't go back in at least until after they have rotted away.
To be honest, I always play with corpse sickness turned to low, because from what I've read, it sounds like default settings are a bit much. Maybe low is too low though, because I have never had corpse sickness. (Although I do follow all of the aforementioned guidelines)
Avoiding it is pretty simple- Don't be where you can hear flies. A few important/helpful tips:
1: Corpse miasma is strict to it's location- If you have a pile of corpses outside, it doesn't affect the interior of the building, and vice versa.
2: The sickness effect afforded by the miasma is gradual not instant; And has no relation to how many corpses there are... Whether there's 10, or 1000, the rate of sickness increasing is the same.
3: Because of #2, You can safely move corpses around, Just keep an eye on your sickness level, when you get get queasy get out of the area for awhile for a literal breath of fresh air- The sickness instantly begins decaying when you aren't in an area affected by the miasma. You can safely reach the second moodle of sickness without suffering any meaningful effects- If you reach the third, it's kinda bad, and if you make the mistake of letting it reach the last, you WILL die before the sickness fades back to a lower tier again.
So when you slay a buncha zombies, just move em away. Need something like a 20-25 tile buffer zone from any pile of I think 5~+ zombies. And "Pile" is a loose term, as they can be spread out a few tiles from one another and still count.
Get a campfire on clear ground, clear the grass away from around it, then pile the corpses on the campfire and burn em- No corpses, no miasma.
In Lv that would be crazy, my last playthrough I go back to now and then I killed over 6,800. That would be to many graves. Plus alot were in town on roads and parking lots.
Just clean up close to home and let the rest decay. I think the time is like two weeks or so. but that may be my settings.
The corp sickness mechanics work like this.
1. Quantity:
Takes 20 dead bodies to start making you sick. The more bodies the faster you get sick.
2.Distance:
You are out of range if +14 tiles away from dead bodies.
3. Enviroment:
A. If within 14 tiles. sleeping in a car you keep getting sick, a car is not indoors is the same as standing next to the corpses.
B. You can have endless amount of bodies outside your house, but be perfectly safe from corp sickness while inside.
C. If 20+ bodies are inside your house, no walls will keep you safe you still have increased sickness. However if the bodies are inside the house and you move to another floor its perfectly safe.
You should not be to worried about corpsickness, it takes A LOT to get your self killed that way, just folllow one rule. Dont sleep next to a bunch of dead people an you will be fine.
