Nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about crafting (Build 42 update)
Of all the issues the game has, the crafting system doesn't even break the top twenty in urgency. It has been baffling to me why the devs have decided to sink so much time into such a small aspect of the game while glaring issues in the core gameplay loop remain unaddressed. Now we aren't even getting a new crafting system LMAO.

"As such we’ve decided it would be a better approach to polish up what we have, and continue the process of bug fixing and polishing the build to the point it would be able to go into the Unstable branch. Then for us to fill out the gaps in the crafting overhaul during Unstable, or perhaps with some smaller releases while Build 43 is under full development.

Though we haven’t worked out exactly what will be in the first iteration, there’ll still be a lot of new crafting for people to sink their teeth into, from stuff like the blacksmithing, pottery, woodworking, food preservation, extra fluid and workstation mechanics, new crafting system and much more. Certain crafting tech trees we’d hoped to be in the initial 42 Unstable release will be pushed back though, to avoid any more unnecessary delays."

Not the same as "Duhr no crafting overhaul" ^^

Years of development dedicated to crafting and all they have to show for it is a couple (by their own admission) half-baked tech trees.

Nah, the crafting update is exactly what this game needs. This *is* addressing a core part of the game loop. It's more stuff to get and put in your base, and more to set up before you've hit the "i'm self-sufficient, i'll live forever" phase of the game by adding more you can actually get self-sufficient in. There's a new difficulty mode based around it for people who are used to the game, it's solid content for multiplayer to make that side more fun, so on and so forth. Great changes all around. I think you underestimate how much this will probably help the game.

100 players, 100 tastes.
I dont really need new crafting rn too (eventually yeah, but id preffer other stuff more if this takes so much time)... but i dont give a fck about NPCs either. Actually, i dont even want npcs ingame, as i like the eerie feeling of being trully alone in hostile world.

What i love the most about new build are these other little things like new light propagation, undeground locations, expanded and upgraded base map, bigger buildings, new vegetation, animals, etc.

I agree on the NPCs. Really worried they're going to overtune them, the loneliness is what this game does best. Like especially with hostile NPCs I don't think you'll really get that same sense of "man is insignificant, you are going to die and it won't mean anything" if the thing that kills you half the time is just another person.

Trolling, award farming, or just idiocy?

There hasn't been "years of development dedicated to crafting" ...

It's a single part of what they have been making these last two or three years.

There is a lot more than a "couple" tech trees planned for the first unstable, read again :

"there’ll still be a lot of new crafting for people to sink their teeth into, from stuff like the blacksmithing, pottery, woodworking, food preservation, extra fluid and workstation mechanics, new crafting system and much more"

And the other ones will be added gradually with updates between B42 Unstable, B42 stable, and before B43, as is written in plain words.

If you really want to bash the game, you could at least try to do it properly, so far you are just making a fool of yourself by showing you can't even read...

Not to mention you'll need something for the NPCs to do once they arrive. A well-polished crafting system is definitely one of the necessary part for that. But hey, those who want to ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan will ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan regardless. It's a lose-lose situation for the devs if they listen to people like this. They take their time to polish the features, people will ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan. They rush to release some hack job, the same people will still ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan.
DaliLhama May 30, 2024 @ 6:26pm
People invent made up scenarios and moan and moan about made up scenarios are just as bad if not worse then people complaining about an actual issue.

But I will disagree with the OP , this does need a crafting overhaul. Its rather bland and boring if you choose to play the game a different way then just cranking up the zombies and see how long you can live. While that is fun , its gets boring much quicker. So them wanting to add something to prolong a play through is welcome in my opinion.

Also if people really believe NPCs will actually behave like survivors , yeah not gonna happen. Give us dumb NPCs that guard safe houses with loot and them being able to raid your home base after a certain time and their gear getting better as your does to keep you on your toes. I will be ok with that.
roachit May 30, 2024 @ 6:36pm
I don't care about the crafting so I'm happy with the announcement that they're cutting it short because I want the new lighting system.

Umm , they do not say what exactly will be added....they just mention the stuff they have been working on for the past 2 and half years. Sure they say Blacksmithing and the like , but what does that actually entail? What has already been shown to us , like the soda machine and the different variations of a baseball bat with a saw in it? That is not much , sure its something. But come on , you gotta be a little bit more skeptical of them. You are too trusting of some strangers developing a game and ready to pounce on a stranger having a different opinion on the state of the game. Relax , its not your game........let the person vent. He is not directing it towards you , are they?

Honestly, this game is a great game. Not buggy. Does what it's supposed to do. I've been playing it for a LONG time. I'm honestly surprised that it's still in development. Mods cover anything that the vanilla game doesn't. My only gripe is that if you get injured, you spend the next 2 hours trying to heal.
