Looking to get better at organization in this game.
Because things are a MESS for me right now.

I understand that having to deal with that is probably an intended task-saturation thing, but dang I would love some better sorting options.

What does "favorite" actually DO? I cannot sort by favorites (whhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyy...............!), so what the heck does it actually do?

Favorite makes it so you dont transfer/drop the item on accident (favorite your gear/loadout) and the category tab at the top of your loot/inventory you can click to sort by item type

The thing I learned is, that if you have major issues organizing, it means you have too much stuff on you/in your base.

I always carried loads of tools and supplies with me everywhere. Ammo, healing items, food, and I always had issues finding certain things in all the various packs and belts on me, or the dozens of dufflebags, crates and shelves in my base, not to mention I had little carry capacity to spare for loot.
However, a few days ago I thought to my self "Do I really need a crowbar on me at all times?", "Do I really need all these bandages, alcoholic wipes 24/7 in my pack?", "Is there any reason to store 23 boxes of nails in my base?".

If you take a moment to think about what you actually need to carry on a daily basis, and how much of the loot you find you will need and have a use for in the immediate future, you'll find it's actually not that much. And if you don't carry a small armies worth of gear, suddenly organizing what you do have becomes much more manageable.

Now, I'm not saying there shouldn't be better organizing options, but if you can break away from the usual gamer reaction of grabbing everything that isn't nailed down (or even things that are, with carpentry), it can make things a lot more easy on yourself.

What's also frustrating is the order of the items seems to randomly change just when you open the inventory pane sometimes. Finding anything in a pinch feels impossible :(

If you click the category tab on each window it will sort them by item type making them easier to find

The sorting options are literally listed as "Weapons, Items, food, etc." All you have to do is click the column name above them to sort them.

This is true, i have noticed it with a few items that they are in a random category instead of being with the other items like it, lookin at you skill books labeled as literature and you pesky unopened cereal boxes labeled as items. Dont know how many times i have been offloading supplies and scrolled down later and been like wtf :steamfacepalm:

I just sort by type and put everything by type in a container. First aid in my bathroom, food in the kitchen cabinets etc. If you find yourself carrying too much, get a vehicle to carry your extra tools and junk.

I only see two sort buttons and neither has a tooltip. Do you mean the categories after the category sort? Does it then move that to the top? Can you arrange them at all?

Ok, so I just went in to the game to see how it worked.
"Category" puts your inventory in to "Item, Weapon, Food" sub-categories.
"Type" puts your inventory in alphabetical order.

If you look closely to the left of "Type" there are three additional buttons. The 3rd from the left puts your inventory in descending or ascending weight.

Hope that clears it up for you

How's this transfer work? Like, it wont move if you select and drag it? Or is there a transfer button I've missed or something?

If you click the transfer all button or try to drag a box and select multiple items like in the windows file browser and happen to highlight something you wont it will transfer everything but the favorited items
