Fever most likely. It takes usually half a day to two days to develop. Likely your character sleeping sped it up. Next time use space and check the moodles. Then look up what they do in the PZ and you likely can search for a possible solution to have your char survive. Though the resources required might not necessarily be readily available to your char.

Never eat burned anything in this game. It isn't just a little char on the outside like "oh haha it's just a little crispy but still edible if you scrap off the black stuff", It's "It was finished cooking an hour(or more) ago and got left in the oven the entire time and is a carbonized mess of carcinogens that is pretty much completely inedible".

While the burning bar is filling up, That's your "oh haha it's just a little crispy but edible". Once it's actually Burnt, Do not eat.

Yeah, I bought it after eating burnt squirrels. I thought it was cuz I forgot to clean them, and I just eat feet, guts, poop and all. But nope, it was cuz they were burnt

When you say burnt did you mean there was progress on the bar or did the food actually said burnt in the name?

According to the devs burnt doesn't mean like black toast. Burnt to them and thus the game is you eating toast turned into charcoal

As a result if you eat burnt food you are gonna die period

If you just have a pot of soup you half burnt but didn't get a full bar then you probably accidentally added something poisonous like Bleach (with one dose of bleach you can't even see it unless you have HIGH cooking and it WILL kill you)

food poisoning can be cured eating lemongrass (which you can forage)

or you can use the mod i made recently :) it turns off the oven when food is cooked so most things just wont burn

actually they are some medicinal herb that help with sickness and food related problem

I remember in some of the earlier builds you would get nasty burns by eating food right out of the oven. Good times. Good times.

I know, i had a few food poisonings in game.
The problem is you would find any of mentioned herbs if you start in winter. And all it takes is a misclick and now the timed hunt for the antibiotics start:D
