Can a bathtub save more water?
One sink can potentially have 9 water barrels connected to it. (rule: collector must be one level above AND right above or one tile over from sink, this allows 9 total valid placements for a collector.)
Caveat: A sink with more than one barrel does not show all the barrels volume at once. the sink read out will only display one barrel's amount.
So if you have a sink and three 400 unit collectors above, all plumbed to it, and all three have 400 units available, your sink will only tell you 400 units. But in reality it will be 1200 units the sink can deliver. The ui does not output the total water units available correctly, unless you have only one collector attached.
This info is true for build 41.
edit:
I do not know if this is true, allowing collectors more than one floor above with a "bridge" for the "pipes"
this is something that will need to be verified in vanilla game to know for sure. I have never heard of vanilla game allowing this and I never tried it myself.
a debug mode test with no mods will allow you to find out for sure. it would be cool if you could. he might be correct.
So it's safe to say that you can actually create an elaborate multi-level plumbing using bathtubs?
========================================================
Sink over multiple levels.
ANSWER: NO. you can not do this in vanilla.
Test: vanilla. single player. -debug launch parameter. water and electric shut off = instant.
go to 2 story house.
find a bathtub on second floor.
build a rain collector directly over it (on roof) cheat it to full water.
go down to bathtub, cheat a pipe wrench and plumb the bathtub.
tub now hold 400 units of water (as expected)
go to floor under bathroom and cheat in sink. NO PLUMB OPTION AVAILABLE.
(as expected, because the rule is: collector one floor up and no more than one tile over from sink.)
test. go up to tub and place new collector (one floor up, and one tile over from sink below. cheat water into collector.
go back down to sink, PLUMB OPTION IS NOW AVAILABLE.
So without mods, this is not possible in vanilla. As exciting as this sounds, vanilla code does not allow for multi level plumbing.
You're welcome.
This is build 41 fact for vanilla.
If you would like to test it yourself, I encourage you do so. There can be no argument if you test it out yourself.
Indeed. I never heard of it. This is why I went in to confirm or deny the rumor. He might have a mod to allow it and no longer remembers what is native code or bespoke. modding the game for a long time can lead to forgetfulness of what is in game. In his game that might be a normal thing, and its a cool thing for sure, but not vanilla. it is an easy trap for giving false information by mistake.
I have many hundreds upon hundreds of hours invested into vanilla zomboid and can usually spot some fishy claims. I am not all knowing either, so I always advocate test it yourself for truth. Even the drivel I spew out. Test it then you know to follow advice or not.
Pasted from the Wiki:
"In multi-story buildings, long distance plumbing connections is possible using a Bathtub, as the feet of the tub counts as a reservoir -- provided both the head and feet are plumbed."

Look at third bullet point in "Quirks of note" section.
Charming.
okay, more info. i plumbed the foot. going into that save to test if plumb both sides works.
I HOPE YOU ARE CORRECT!!!
---------
test.
remove and replace tub allows me to plumb each section from the upper collector on roof. each section of tub reports 400 units (from barrel)
remove all sink below tub. place new one. no option to plumb...
collectors on roof. check. full of water. plumb both tub parts. check.
place sink below. plumb not an option.
How does this work? Banzai? I sooo want it to.
-----------
EDIT: keep reading the entire thread. I'm still trying to figure it out at this time and am skeptical.
i cant get the plumb to hook up to a tub above. if it bothers me enough to warrant further testing i might do that.
Yes you can do it. That's so awesome.
it is not intuitive at all, and missing steps are not told.
how i did it.
Remove everything from all floors. start there.
go up to roof. add collector. (add some water)
go down to first floor. add sink. no plumb available.
go to one floor up. place tub over sink, under collector.
go back down and now plumb sink.
go back up to tub, plumb BOTH head and foot.
sink has 400 water.
Thanks Banzai, and Cat for a few details in there.
I so wanted Banzai to be correct (with out mods) but I had never heard of it or seen a thread about it. I don't play the wiki as much as I do zomboid.
I am now going to have to rethink my Grandmother's Louisville Mansion, because I pulled out the bathtub two game years ago and busted holes in the walls to add rain collectors outside each level. If I only knew then, when I spent the winter in LV with a busted leg, fortifying my character's grandmother's old mansion.
Feeling blessed to gain this new (old) knowledge!
