This, not too hardcore like Brita's.
if you have a mod like this with 100+ firearms, and like extra 30 ammo types, your chances of finding the correct magazines for a gun, AS WELL AS enough of the correct ammo types are slim-to-none. you will just end up with a huge mish-mash of guns you have no ammo for, and ammo/mags that you have no gun to use with. over, and over again.
ontop of this, it has the same problem with custom ammo types that all other gun mods have in common: the vanilla ammo types (223,308,buckshot,9mm etc etc) all spawn at about 10-20 times the rate of all the other custom ammunition types. After raiding 2 police stations, 2 gun stores, hunting supplies, military surplus and a pawn shop, i had like well over 100 boxes each of buckshot,9mm and 308. yet the highest amount of custom ammo i found was 4 boxes of 30-06.
the mod has the choice of using buckshot (vanilla shotgun shells, mod just changed name of it) or shotgun slugs in your shotgun, yet after having 100+ buckshot boxes you would expect i'd also find some slugs along the way. i had a grand total of 2 boxes of slugs.
this guns of 93 mod is a WIP and would be amazing without all these balance issues. IDK why all gun mods with custom ammo still cant get it to spawn at the same rate as the vanilla ammo, maybe limitations of the modding API or problems with how zomboid deals with spawn rates of larger loot tables.
however with all that being said, its still a fun mod to try out and play with. it's very promising with it's features like being able to load .38 special rounds in revolvers chambered for .357, a feature i wanted in alot of gun mods, because it works IRL.
maybe don't take my word for it, and try it out for yourself :P
idk if you ever played fallout new vegas, but it had a system where you could recover the brass casings of rounds that you fired, breakdown other calibers that you weren't using to collect primers and propellant powder, and collect scrap metal to break down into bullet heads, so that you could do hand-loading and essentially use your gun-nut skills to reload your bullets.
if this mod had something like that where you could loot casings and primers from materiel production buildings, then all my complaints would disappear, because then you could just breakdown all the really common ammo types and hand-load the specific cartridges that you need.
in fact i think there might be a mod for that, but i doubt it's compatible with custom gun mods
i've tried a few other firearms mods too but not extensively enough to judge them fairly
More gun variation is nice and all, but boy howdy, getting their ammo is a pain in the ahh as a result.
I think I enjoy only using base firearms more than using mods. Because this way, I can have a hundred boxes of shotgun shells that I can happily chuck at the zeds without having to worry about running out.
though i'd say firearms b41 is the lesser evil as it lets you convert some ammo types for free
even still, i too have recently eschewed gun mods in favour of the vanilla ones
This adds 0 new guns but lets you craft/convert ammo and repair/tweak all vanilla guns.
I love B41 Firearms in SP but it's broken in MP. For MP I've really enjoyed Vanilla Firearms Expansion.
