Can't write in empty notebook, help!

Hey lads, I need a bit of quick help with something!

So I know that if you have the proper pen/pencil you can write on sheets of paper, notebooks, and journals, but despite having pretty much every kind[i.imgur.com] of pen/pencil, as well as an empty notebook, I can't seem to write in it.

I did check to be sure by even trying to 'read notebook' and writing from there, but I've had no luck. I managed it once in the past but it currently seems to be eluding me. Can anyone help me out? I'd love to be able to keep notes and to-do lists ingame, to deepen the immersion.

Is your pencil in your main inventory? I remember sometimes if the pencil was in a bag, the option wasn't available to write. Weird because the notebook could be in a bag, but the utensil to mark on it had to be out of a bag.

Been a while since I used them, but maybe?

I tried it a bunch of different ways. Pencil and notebook both equipped in primary/secondary, notebook primary, pencil primary, just having the notebook and all the different pens in my inventory, etc.
None of it seems to work.

None of it seems to work.

You have mods? The way that category is listed isn't vanilla I don't think(?) so maybe it's a conflict with a mod or mods.

I have quite a few. The only ones that could potentially affect it are better sorting and the increased durability mod I have, but I already tested disabling these two things and I still had no luck with it.
Not to mention that I've had prior success while using said durability mod.

^ This quote pretty much sums up what I'd have to say here --- I made sure to test to make sure it wasn't Better Sorting before asking. I would've felt like an idiot otherwise lol

You could try to start a new game with no mods, in degug mode. Give yourself the notebook and pencil and try it fresh clean and new, if that works then its a mod.

Another thought is, if your mod broke something and you turn it off maybe you need to loot a new pencil from an unseen container to get it to work. Because you mentioned you turned off the mods but still broke. try that too.

Okay so as it turns out, it seems like the first go around when I went to disable the enhanced durability mod I actually disabled the wrong thing. Disabling that fixed it --- a shame but I've been trying to get myself to turn it off sometime anyways.
