Planks
Is there a better way to get planks other then dismatling stuff? It kind of suck taking things apart for hours and barely getting any planks.

As your carpentry skill improves you will gradually get more resources from dismantling things. As above though, chopping trees will get you logs which you can saw into planks assuming you have the right tools. Also watch out for boarded up survivor houses since you can always remove the barricades from the windows and doors.

While it doesnt use any more stamina their IS a bug that causes twice as many durability checks to occur using the cut trees command, so your tools will in fact last twice as long doing it manually!

Although you can use the cut trees command intentionally to run those extra durability checks as each one you pass that doesnt consume any durability still awards maintenance EXP, plus you can use speed-up commands while doing so to quickly raise maintenance with stone axes and such.

Cut down some trees with an axe or cleaver, saw them into planks. 3 per log iirc.

Wait a sec, cleavers cut down trees?

I dont think so... not in base game atleast.

cutting down trees is very reliable, you can do it with a meat cleaver as well if you have any. do dismantle everything though, higher level means higher chances to get planks from dismantling. eventually you can do go to chapels or court houses to dismantle benches, all compacted and ready to be put in a car

I know you said no dismantling but you can actually pick up flooring and underneath break down the underneath flooring for planks some people don't know that one

If only I had a hammer, I could take things apart too... but I still haven't found one. Everything else, but no hammer of any sort.

Yes, but it doesn't use the chop down command. You have to hit it with aim like it's a zed.
Almost 2000 hours in the game and learned something new today.

Found a hammer. Started taking things apart. Started wondering why I even need a hammer in the first place?
I mean I'm dismantling things. Pulling nails out, not putting them in. A crowbar would make much more sense for that. If I'm taking things apart with a hammer I'm basically just smashing them.

In case you didn't know, hammers generally have a plier on its other end. It's much easier to pull out nails using hammers than using crowbars.

A quick google search and I found out that it's called claw hammer. And that's the hammer model that the game uses.
