Can you survive in the forest in project Zomboid without anything?
Don't you need the recipe for the fishing rod?
How do you saw wood without a saw?
How do you even survive?

You can't. Well, you might be able to forage and keep yourself barely alive, maybe. I don't know what the foraging table is like for deep forest, maybe you could find a saw and a pack of nails, I dunno.

You can find enough food to keep going, water might be a problem though, but once you get good at foraging you'll find random fruit trees popping up out of nowhere which have enough fresh fruit to slake your thirst, sorta.

But for now you need a mod that adds more rustic crafting options to make things from wood and stone.

:zagcry:

Is there some way to make a pot or boiling sacks? (for water and food)

Technically you could forage your way to a saw and a bucket and a hammer and some nails. Its complete rng though.

If there's also a pond or lake in the forest area, yes. The most important thing is calories, you'd want to level fishing as much as you can before winter so you can continue to fish in the winter. Foraging levels very quickly, so you'd have level 10 foraging which will find the rare items you need.

If you want to play wilderness only game, you can get by without saw.
You don't get to build a base, but you can make a campsite surrounded by log walls for protection.

For water, you need to be lucky enough to find water bottles in a zombie's inventory or from foraging. You can then boil them on a campfire.

As for the rest, the others above have already explained it.

How do you build log walls when there are not enough zombies around for sheets?

And if I do have a saw, does it break after a while? Haven't played in a while...

How do you make fire in the wild without matches or a lighter?

Does the "smoker" trait disappear after a while?

Technically you could probably find a way to do it with foraging and fishing (dont remember if you need a saw for spears), but it'd be pretty limited in scope. Can't really build or anything, would need lemongrass to survive drinking raw water. Build 42 is looking to change this though, part of the overhaul is the ability to survive/thrive on a nature map. There is a large variety of mods available in the meantime, you could probably assemble a few that would allow it.
if you dont have weak gut you can drink tainted water without dying,
its just you get sick for a little bit, it wont stack unless your getting extremely warm or something like that

You can make sheet rope out of their clothing, and there are some population centers near wooded areas which do see more zombies then the very middle of the wilderness. However you'd probably have to get a bit lucky. On the flip side if you're having that much trouble finding zombies for sheet rope...you might not really need the sheet rope.

The space you'd want vs the space you need is also something to consider. A 5x5 square is preferable...but you could get by with a 3x3 if you're careful. That's 8 less walls you'd need for an enclosed space. ...Unless the campfire sets fire to the walls, which I don't know if it does.

I took the claustrophobic trait so 5x5 is probably better...

I would basically like to survive just out of the forest.

I make one exception: The sauce pan and regular pan I found. I had to get out of the city from the basic starting point so I collected it on my way out. I think that's fair. And since the game doesn't allow you to make stone or clay pots, it's even needed.

I found some tarp in an abandoned car. Can I build a tent with it?

I started the run by the way. Currently East of that "Isolated Forest House" East from Muldraugh. My goal for now is to reach the "Camping Grounds" and then the lake East of that.

If there is a way to light a wood stove without matches or a lighter, I might want to proceed to go to that "Hunting Cabin" East of West Point close to the river, because I think that might be kinda cozy. I am just doing the run for fun and with no viewers or something so I think it would be more nice to live in a cabin if the game doesn't allow you to build one without a saw or nails...

You don't need regular stones to build campfires?

I just reached the lake shore!

- No you can start with it as a profession

- You can make a stone axe in vanilla but not a stone saw

- You can do "a live in the woods" play through with farming, trapping, and foraging.

Build 42 will allow you to start out in a forest with nothing and work your way up without ever going into a town. In the mean time there are a lot of mods that fill that gap

Just wait until you get your hands on B42. This is one of the goals of the build, to be able to survive on your own, away from civilization.

I don't wanna install mods. Too much of a hassle. I just want to play.

I forgot to add the trapper skill.

I started with the fisher trait so I am fine with that. The question was more regarding the spears.
Is max level fishing with spears good enough in the winter?
Are lakes frozen over? Are rivers frozen over?
