... Is there a way to remove so that your player can't catch fire?
I wanted to burn a corpse pile using a lighter and gasoline, like I normally do. 0.01 seconds after I did it, I caught fire and died 2 seconds later. I just lost a 10 day old character that I've spent like 15 hours on. I don't understand. How am I suppose to burn corpses then?

Can't even go back with a new character and get my stuff back cuz my corpse burnt to a crisp. All my car keys from the cars I've collected are now gone, all the skills I've farmed are gone, all my good weapons and tools are gone. Nice, really nice feature of the game.

Is there a load or something that I can grab? Literally anything other than restarting my character... Cuz I'll have to restart the world as well, no point in going to a base full of cars if I can't start a single one of them. Actually so disappointed.

Yeah fire in this game is insane. You can survive a zombie tearing out your throat, albeit with some difficulty and luck, but get one pixel too close to a match and it's crispy critter time. Best I know of is turning off fire spread in multiplayer but even there you want to avoid such fires as do happen. And I never use gasoline to get rid of corpses. Too wonky. Just make a campfire, stuff a bunch of dead bodies in there and then (from a safe distance, carefully!) light the campfire. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were some kind of asbestos mod out there because you absolutely aren't the first person to have that problem.

Don't stand on a tile that contain an object on fire. That's it.

You likely don't understand how corpses appear vs where the corpse is. Depending on the angle a corpse can looks quite far from the tile he currently stand on.

Try grabbing and placing down corpses in a spot easy to identify so you are sure to be standing on the tile next to them before you try to light thing on fire.

Or just leave corpse alone, they rot away. or change sandbox setting so they rot away faster. ot grab and drop them in a bin, then delete. Or use a campfire. Or check out mods to automatically move corpses around.

1: While you may not have keys to start the cars, You can hotwire them. So, Going to a base full of cars isn't as bad as you seem to think.

2: How to burn corpses: Place a campfire, Pile corpses on the campfire, light the campfire. Doing it via gasoline is possible, but very risky as it's sometimes difficult to tell what tile a corpse is actually on- If it's on the same tile as you and you don't realize it, You're going to burn to death yourself.

3: I don't know of a way to prevent your character from catching fire other than, yknow, being careful. But I do know of a mod that lets you put out the fire on yourself if you react fast enough:

I mean it just doesn't make sense. I was away from the pile, I pressed "Burn corpse", my character went up, poured the gasoline and I caught fire immediately. I even tried to put a bandage on it but it took too long and I died like literally 1-2 seconds after I caught fire.

Either I get sick from all the corpses, or I die from burning them...

A mistake learned that everyone probably does at least once. One of my early rage quits, finally getting going, got some good gear, decide it's worth tidying up your house, you pile up the corpses, right click "burn corpse" and your character stands on top of the corpse and sets it ablaze, turning you to ash in about 15 seconds. Damn it!

It's far, far, far better to build a little campfire, drop every zombie you want destroyed on top of it (build the fire first, as you can't make a campfire underneath a pile of zombies - another lesson I learned the hard way after moving like 200 corpses lol) and then light the camp fire, which your character does without stepping on top of it, plus it doesn't immediately catch the corpses on fire so you have time to back away. It'll burn like 95% of all the corpses on the pile, leaving a few stragglers.

Someone has probably already told you this already though.

I'm pretty sure there's a server setting (might be MP only) that disables fire damage, or maybe it just disables fires, I dunno.

But yeah don't use the "burn corpse" option, put the corpses on a campfire and then light the campfire to burn them all up in one go, it's way safer.

Just.. move the corpses to a spot that you don't go to, somewhere outside preferably. Or you can enable trash containers deleting things so you can drop a corpse in a dumpster and delete it.

Stand back from the pile, then select burn corpse. Your character will walk just close enough to do the task and you won't get burned.

This is what I did, sadly it didn't work as I burnt to a crisp anyways :(

Interesting. This is how I've been doing it for years and haven't had the issue since. Maybe try just clicking on a corpse closer to the edge of the pile.

Were you burning the corpses on top of grass or any flammable surface? You should only burn corpses on top of asphalt like on parking lots to avoid the fires spreading your way.

That's actually an excellent point that I didn't think of because I always burn bodies on asphalt, but I can see how this could potentially cause the problem.

I did burn it on grass but I don't think that was an issue, seeing as my character started a fire at her own feet, quite literally. It didn't even have time to spread yet before I died x)

You shouldn't spread before dying, that only makes your death pose less dignified.

I forgot that i left a pot of spaghetti bolognese cooking in the house next door to my safe house. I went to sleep and woke up with my house on fire!

I burned to death when i woke up lol

i was fortunate enough to survive my first "burn corpse" incident because i had a fire extinguisher in the trailer attached to my truck just a few feet away.
i survived, albeit barely.
