Starter Maps seem off..
All the YouTube vids I have watched state that Rosewood is the best for starting out. While Riverside is secondary. Also, mentioning how to stay away from West Point, if rather new at the game.

Rosewood places are so small (homes / map size), and there are so many packs of 5-7 mobs around every corner. Which doesn't really feel very newbie friendly.

While, when starting out in Muldraugh, I get placed with a nice house, backpacks / tools in the surrounding homes, and mostly stranglers or 2-3 zombies (very manageable).

I don't know if its the side burns I put on my guy, or if I am getting just really lucky in Muldraugh.. but it sure seems Muldraugh is better for newbies..

Am I missing something here? I rolled 3 toons on this map, and they were able to really excel.

My experience with Riverside is hit or miss.

Spawn in the trailer park? ♥♥♥♥ that.
Spawn by the river or in the suburb? Let's go!

You might be interested in a custom map called Bedford Falls on the workshop.

IIRC it's pretty diverse like Riverside but since it's a college town, the loot is a bit more abundant.

Muldraugh has some good spawns and base locations, there's also easy access to mostly empty woods in terms of zombies. Fishing nearby, good loot, pretty centralized, vehicle wreck site on the main road to the south. There's nothing wrong with starting in muldraugh, riverside id argue is better than rosewood as well.

In terms of difficulty, from easiest to hardest

Rosewood > Riverside > Muldraugh > West Point

Rosewood is the easiest because everything is within reach of the spawn, mainly the fire station which provides pretty much anything you might need. I spawned in it twice and decided it just isn't for me because everything is so tightly cramped. The issue with Rosewood isn't that it's small but that's it's repetitive, as soon as you spawn you will blindly rush towards the fire station because it's the best, if not THE ONLY, safespot.

Rosewood is also the best town to start playing multiplayer in, whether to ease the newcomers in or set the loot-tables to high and grab some guns so you could all head out to shoot up the prison within 10 minutes of gameplay or the military base within 20 minutes.

I can't speak from experience about Riverside or West Point because I haven't spawned in them ever, but from what I've been told they are the flipside of the same coin. Riverside is the least infested spawn location while West Point is the most infested spawn location.

As far as Muldraugh goes, I almost know it by heart considering how many characters I started (and lost) in it. According to research, recommendations (and personal experience), the Muldraugh Gated Community is among the best, if not THE BEST spot to set up a stronghold. The only downside of Muldraugh is that it's the least resource intensive spawning town of them all and you really have to struggle to get off the ground. Hitting the highway within the first month is a death sentence so it's best to focus on the Gated Community first, then the rest of the houses and trailers tucked away from the highway. The gas station at the lower end of Muldraugh rarely ever has zombies wandering aroud it, so it's the best spot to refill your cars in the early game and it can even serve as an excellent base if you can get your Carpentry high enough to build stairs.

When it comes to what the WORST PART OF MULDRAUGH IS, I would say it's the general area around the Church because the damned brainfarts for some reason really love what the Baptists are preaching. Not only is it a spawning hotspot but migration also pulls them from all sides, so sticking around that area without proper preparation is a pain.

Hmm.. I just tried the Riverside, and spawned in the mobile park area (go figure). While majority of my spawning locations, within Muldraugh, seem to pop you in a 2 story house with tools all within or in the area of the starting location.

With Rosewood, I keep getting stuck in a small ground floor house, with rare supplies, and you need to run towards the firestation to get anything; like it was stated above.

I am still seeing the easiest being Muldraugh, due to what you get started with. Two story house, high wall fencing, small zombie population, tools within 1-3 houses length, and tons of canned foods. I only had 1 spawn where I was in a ground floor, next to the high fence houses. lol.

Guess I am missing this 'easy start' with Rosewood.

I still have my suspicions that it has something to do with the side burns, on my starting character, since that seems to be when I get lucky. lol..

Subjective honestly. I love Riverside the most.

Most youtubers are either out of date or really bad at this game lol

Rosewood has been a bad starter zone for a very long time as it was patched to have denser zombie populations and has the worst looting areas. You will not find much industrial loot or skill books here. It sucks but the meme persists that its a newbie friendly area haha Best start for short games or people who pick veteran for its bad perk :evadebullets:

Muldraw is a very good starting zone with easy access to great loot and a mid level population focused on the main highway. This is a great place to start and learn the game.

Riverside is extremely underrated with excellent loot and dispersed zombie population but much more random spawn zones, there is a chance you will start outside town in the trailer park or at trumps golf course and its also a long distance from the rest of the map locations. Once you learn the map this is a better starting zone

Westpoint is a hard mode start with very high population but some of the best loot you can find real easy, its the only starting town with a fully stocked hunting store. You will need some game experience to start here and survive.

This is pretty much my experience. I have not had much luck with riverside, and I haven't dared tried Westpoint. However, I just tried Rosewood again, and got turned around, and found myself by a prison, exhausted, and it was getting dark. I am really leaning towards Muldraugh being the best newbie start.

It actually depends, short term goals, and long term goals, experience, map knowledge etc. these decide, what you put focus on. If your short term focus is on survival then yes, Riverside because of the many cars and the FD is an easy spawn, you can still place the cars before windows and form a V before the main door (and block the side door) and you got a mostly inaccessible place.(Crawlers should not be in that much number.) Even easier with the hotels. However certain types of supplies either spawn or they dont:) But you can always grab a car from gas station, church or gigamarket park place, or behind the hotels.
Riverside on the other hand has usually a car in the warehouse parking lot, or near the garage in the industrial part, and by the bar at the resi commercial part. Riverside has everything in place or in a short distance loot wise. Whereas Rosewood does not anymore.
Muldraugh has everything as well, even a spot within 3 hour by car to get your antique oven:D

If you have map knowledge you will know where to go and what to do, whereever you spawn. Allthough for me an easier starting position is Muldrough simply because i know that if i go south i can reach the crossroads with the cars, and that is quite a safe zone, or i can walk a lot and get to the warehouse should i spawn in the trainyard. In Rwood i make it for the northwestern or southeastern farm houses. In Riverside i just go for the far away gas station. And in March ridge the southern blockade. West Point is 3 houses or the bridge:)

Muldraugh is also kinda a hit or miss in my experience.

If you spawn in the gated community southeast of town then you can have a mildly good start. But if you spawn anywhere close to the trailer park up north then you are quite screwed since that area is pretty packed with zeds. The isolated house being the only saving grace there.

Honestly, I disagree about the population. Rosewood isn't as packed as the other towns are. It only feels that way because of how small the town is. Hell, even Fallas Lake feels even more packed for the same reason, when in reality, it has lesser population than Rosewood.

I agree on the limited looting place though.
But all in all, it's not as much a newbie trap as you claim it to be.

I first tried Muldraugh and had a very hard time.. but I also hadn't learned the game yet. Rosewood is where I hung my hat and as a noob, it seems to be friendlier than how I remember Muldraugh on my first attempts.

I'm gonna go back and try Muldraugh now that I know how to play though. Never tried Riverside or West Point. I'm guessing West Point is alright before zombie population peaks??

What we need is a March Ridge spawn option.

You know you can gather up a massive horde then lose them in a nearby forest? You can literally move 100 zombies and dump them in a forest leaving you to loot a whole area. If you go park ranger (can move faster through forest) it becomes trivial. This means there is no easy or hard starting area.
