Does a mod exist to turn off zombie re-spawn in apocalypse mode?
I've put in about 125 hours over the last 3 weeks which has consisted mainly of me dying again and again but I've learned each time and perfected my start. I'm at the point where I have 13 rain catcher barrels and two generators. One at the base and another at the gas station. I've got a car in great working order and I've got a sledge hammer with a good supply of baseball bats with nails in them. The news TV broadcasts have stopped broadcasting but the city water and power has not went offline yet. I plan to grow crops while working on my mechanics skills but I can see myself running out of things to do after that. I suppose I could just grind all of my character skills to max level but I was thinking the idea to kill all zombies in the game world sounded kind of fun and something I could do once I've built myself up enough.

I was wondering if a mod existed that would allow you turn off the zombie re-spawns once you have already started an apocalypse game. I'm aware of sandbox mode but I wanted to play apocalypse the way it was intended and I wouldn't mind continuing on with my character in my current game but having a much larger goal of killing all zombies on the map as a more long term goal that would give me purpose to go to other cities and slowly see everything the game has to offer.

You don't need a mod for this, just create a SANDBOX with the Apocalypse pre-set and set the Zombie Respawn to 0.

PS EDIT: The only difference shows up when your character dies and the game shows you're playing in Sandbox. If this bothers you simply move the save file from "Sandbox" to "Apocalypse" folder.

If you want to change your settings mid-game there are guides online for that (can't paste the links here for some reason)

your post makes literally no sense to me. so you want to turn off respawn with a mod while you can literally use sandbox to turn off respawn and keep all other apocalypse settings but you dont want to because you "wanted to play apocalypse the way it was intended" like is english not your first language or something? your post is just word vomit

Like I said, I'm aware of sandbox mode but I wanted to play apocalypse mode first. I'm just wandering if I could turn off the re-spawns once I run out of things to do on my current run instead of starting all over again in sandbox mode.

It's already on because I'm playing apocalypse mode instead of sandbox mode. I'm looking for a way to turn it off so I don't have to start over in sandbox mode with a new character.

You can use this mod to change settings after you start a game. I've never used it for respawn settings so I'm unsure how well it works for that.

Backup your game before trying.

Good luck, it's in advance zombie options, should be a respawn option that says "72" which is 72 hours or 3 days. Change it to 0.

I've tried that mod also (and the one made by star), changing Respawn did not work .
After reading some comments, someone mentioned you can't change the settings of a cell after it has been generated.
I had to start a new world. :(

I’m almost 100% sure this is correct. I’ve used the mod a handful of times. Once you go into a cell and spawn zombies, they’ll remain there even after you change spawn settings. It’s only areas you haven’t been to yet that are affected by the mod, I do believe.

I mean, there's a template for Apocalypse mode in the sandbox mode. All you have to do is turn off the respawn.

Better off just restarting a new game in sandbox as people are saying. Install the cheat mod and set your character skills and everything as you had it in your current game, then remove it if you want to pick up where you left off so to speak. But even if you changed game settings "properly" by replacing the config file it will not have an effect on already generated zombies, as others have said above.

One of these days I have to do a no respawn run to see what it's like but so far I can't convince myself to do it because it seems like the world would get pretty boring pretty quickly once I had the world to myself.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to continue on with my game until I get bored. I'll use sandbox mode for my next game.

Just a heads up that Apocalypse is considered THE hardest mode, so you shouldn't be surprised if the game throws you into one hell of a situation every once in a while.

On another note, I can understand why you want to stick to Apocalypse because I'm pretty much the same and I want to have as much of a realistic experience as the game can provide. After some tinkering I made my own modifications and I can share them here:

PROJECT ZOMBOID SOLITUDE SETUP
Sandbox game, Apocalypse preset,
Three "buffs" and three "debuffs" to balance them out

1. Population counter 1.25 (default is 1.5)
2. Multi-hit disabled to balance (default is also disabled but most people enable it)

3. Zombie respawn in a tile 72 hours (default is 16)
4. Zombie Migration 6 hours to balance (default is 12)

5. Map known at start and minimap enabled (default is both disabled)
6. Map annotations disabled to balance (default is enabled)

The main reason why you have a gripe with zombie respawn (I know from experience) is the tile respawn setting, 16 hours simply isn't enough time for a player to take a fully loaded van to store all of the loot into the base so you end up having to clear the same area over and over and over and over again. 72 hours for the tile respawn gives you more than enough time to do your looting, go back to base, maybe repair your gear or your van and trailer, get back and continue looting until you clean the place.

For me being a new player, I just assumed that disabling zombie respawn would make the game noticeably more easy. I figured the devs wanted to keep the pressure up and if you disabled the respawns then you could essentially clear an area and set up a base and only have to deal with a few random zombies that wandered over there. However, after playing for a while, I have found a few base locations where zombies rarely go anyway so changing the respawn probably only effects base defense if you bunk up in certain dangerous locations in major cities.

My main reason for wanting to disable it was to give me a long term goal that would give me a reason to visit each city and clear out every building. It's more about giving my current playthrough more long term driving force. I do like Apocalypse mode and it will require more clearing of zombies every time you want to get gas or search out resources but I think I might play through the sandbox mode once I either die or get tired of playing my current playthrough.

Adding NPC's that you can find and help out would probably give the player an alternative long term goal that would be satisfying without needing to go to extremes like killing all zombies in the entire state. Most likely once they get reintroduced this will solve my issue of having a long term goal and reason to explore everything while keeping the original apocalypse mode difficulty intact.
