theres some good ones but i find that the farmhouses in riverside are a pretty good spot
also the west point mansions are pretty good but west point is pretty populated so its very slow to get to any POIS (points of interest) another good option are the mansions in louisville

heres the map btw https://map.projectzomboid.com/#11876x6422x12

Depends mostly on your skill and risk aversion.
Rosewood is the easiest one. It has the lowest zombie population due to its humble size, a variety of shops, a few good houses and some farm silos close by across the highway, where you can stock up on as many fresh veggies as you need (given that you get the car soon enough to get there in time). It is a small town tho, so there's some potential issues in finding very specific items or cars. It is the farthest start from Louiseville, and fishing lakes are fair distance away.

Riverside is easy-medium. Larger population is offset by the most secure residential cluster on the eastern side of town. There's a reasonable variety of loot, a river for fishing, shops are close by, and there's more luxurious cars here than anywhere else. It is somewhat lacking in tools and materials as it has no industrial facilities, which you will have to get from a massive factory to the south-west road, and lack of firearms due to puny police station.

Muldraugh is medium-hard. It is an industrial hub town stretched wide adjacent to the highway. The town is located in the dead center of the map, so it won't take long to travel to other locations. There's plently of tools and materials, especially in a closely positioned lumber mill on the other side of the highway. However, due to its elongated shape, it will be hard to navigate on foot, and populaltion is high, especially near the said highway, where all the different restaraunts and shops are packed together closely.

West Point is the hardest start. It is a large residential town with all the necessities covered, safe for the most rare cars. There's really no shortage of anything here. All the various shops, food, a river, tools, materials, guns - somewhere in town there a place to find it, and it doesn't take long to reach. Unfortunately, it is the most zombie-packed start. Conquering West Point start on Apocalypse is a bagde of an acclimated PZ player of sorts, because of how difficult it is to raid central parts of the town without being overrun, where most of the goodies are concentrated.

west point
there's a warehouse, small gun store, a pub for your panic attack need and supermarket, once you done clear the town you can finally play the game and went to louisville

Check this video and come to your own conclusion, maybe:

Personally, I agree with what Cat said above, starting with Riverside.
And the reasons why you'd want start with Riverside are because it's close to Ohio river, it's fairly large--meaning more loot, and fairly small population.

Establishing a safe route between town is also fairly seamless by going south to Fallas Lake, then Rosewood, then March Ridge if you want, or straight to Muldraugh, stop by Dixie, then West Point, and then back to Riverside.

Ekron is a pretty good starting point as well, a skilled player can wipe out the city taking control over a gas station, bookshop, hardware shop and a bunch of homes in like 4-5 killing days if on normal pop (problably 800 or less kills). If max pop you pretty much own the town around 7K kills, so not that bad as well... Perfect safe home are located at 6633x8707 (a single house south-west of Ekron and north of 2 food warehouses some 20 min away if running, and fishing spot fairly close as well ( a very good spot to build a base of operations after taking over ekron. You can use the spawn mod or take the walk from either rosewood or riverside. Perfectly centered to everything except westpoint/louisville where the 3 houses could be the finale of your playthrough.

riverside’s your best bet imo, you’ve got good starting loot, easy fishing access, and relatively low population

the only potential issue is that it’s a bit of a drive to get to the other towns, so loot runs would require more planning

For a long run you want a central location on the map so you can travel around easier.

Build several bases, i think the most simple trap player can get into is only having one location. If its single player one challenge might be to establish a safe ground in all area's and if you feel like moving town you can go continue dismantling town X or town Y or stockpiling from town X and town Y

A FELLOW MAN OF CULTURE - also here's the funny part, even if it was based on the real spot geographically it's still not Ekron, it would be Lickskillet.
“lickskillet” is a really funny name too

Intellectually I know that Muldraugh is probably the best town to base. Centrally located, lots of valuable outlying buildings (McCoys, the railyard, those factories on the road to Rosewood) but I dislike the lack of garages for a starting location. Plus the thin vertical layout irks me for reasons I can't explain.

West of West Point is a trio of really nice houses. They have fireplaces, close by the river, and nothing but woods around. One even has a tall metal fence.

The other place I like is rural farms in the center of the map. There are some with their own wells, and again, the zombie population around is pretty low. If you have a buildable wells mod, your choice of locations in that area is even bigger.

The first one I like because it looks nicer and has great fishing. The other place is nice to be in the geographic center of the map, so you can take trips to secondary bases in different towns easily.
