Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Help me to decide
Should i get this game or skyrim? ( im not looking for answers from people who havent played skyrim) Im solo player, and im not confident with third-party sites, so i prefer to use steam workshop instead of nexusmods and etc. So, which game vanilla better? ( keep in mind i could get pz mods tho)
Thanks!

Skyrim Pros:
1 Well crafted open-world experience, a lot of hidden details exist in the map and it's quite fun to explore and try to find them all.
2 Great modding community, is still being modded today, and many mods are incredibly high quality.
3 Amazing soundtrack, very peaceful and fits the style and theme of the game very well.
4 Enjoyably short for those who need it to be short, but can be a long ride for those who are in it for the long haul.
Skyrim Cons:
1 It's an older game, meaning physics, graphics, and certain things like voicelines and geometry glitches may be downside.
2 The storyline isn't great, the characters feel kind of hollow in depth, and there isn't much personal stake in the story at all.
3 It's very hard to change your mind halfway through leveling up a character, you have to jump through serious hoops to reset your skillpoints.
4 It is an old game, which also means that it will never receive any future content updates.

Overall Skyrim is a very well-made fantasy rpg experience. While not as in-depth with it's character creation as the previous ES titles, it offers a much more widely available experience. If you like fun random encounters, killing things in ridiculous ways, or rpgs like Fallout then I would give Skyrim a shot.

Project Zomboid Pros:
1 Is incredibly realistic in it's mechanics. Eating pills and drinking vodka will kill you, leaving the oven on will burn down your house, and alcohol can be used to disinfect wounds.
2 It is still being developed, and will be developed for years to come. It is obviously a labor of love and the developers and the modding community are very dedicated to this game.
3 An amazing modding community, very high quality mods, and the devs even hired some modders.
4 It offers an experience for anyone. You can change basically anything about the game in the sandbox settings. Someone can be playing a no-zombie farming simulator, while their friend is playing a doom-style shoot-em-up game with a hundred zombies on the screen, and someone else can be playing a suspenseful stealth game where zombies insta-kill so you have to sneak.

Project Zomboid Cons:
1 Development is slow, it is a small dev team. For an example, the Build 42 update has been in the works for over a year, that should give you a good estimate.
2 You have to play smart, or you will lose everything. If you sprint everywhere and fire a shotgun in the middle of town, you will have 200 zombies biting you in seconds.
3 It is very difficult, I know I already kind of said this, but it needs to be said again. You can lose everything in an instant, and sometimes it isn't even your fault. (Though most times it definitely is your fault.)
4 You have to be in it for the long haul with this game, if you survive, that is. Leveling skills is very difficult and takes a long time, and gathering the materials to even start leveling up is even harder. You have to be willing to spend 10 minutes of your life reading a book for an xp boost, or you will not survive.

Overall Project Zomboid is an extremely realistic and high-quality zombie game that offers a modifiable experience not only through mods but through vanilla settings as well. If you like crafting your own story, enjoying the little details here and there, or playing games with high risks and high rewards, then I would suggest you play Project Zomboid.

TL;DR
If you like to kill everything quickly and epic-ly in a fantasy world, play Skyrim.
If you like to slowly make your own story and survive against all odds in a zombie world, play Project Zomboid.

Hopefully this was helpful lol, It's pretty hard to sum up two very big games in just one message so I hope I did a good job of explaining things for you.

Nexus is as safe as it can be. And both games are completely different genre. Both also have completely different atmosphere and gameplay. Just pick whichever cheaper.

Skyrim Special Edition has a built-in modding method so you won't be losing out on mods either way. They are incredibly different games with completely different mechanics that are hard to compare. Though as somebody experienced in nexus, it's a decent site and with the proper mod manager it's almost just as easy as steam workshop, with the exception of load orders. I've never run into any viruses. Now to answer fully :

Personally I feel there is more to do in Zomboid and with Zomboid mods, it's still updated as well and has plenty of years left of development before the devs even consider dropping the project. Solo can get a little boring after some time, but it's the same with both games there. Zomboid is great in all modes, solo, private MP, and public MP. It's a sandbox game so you can change a lot to your liking and make up your own challenges and such. If you don't have an ability to make up your own goals and such then it might be awhile until this title would be good but if you do have that ability then it's a great pick. I am too, a solo player (or coop) when gaming but I did join a public server with a friend bored one day, it's been over six months since then and I've never felt more belonging to a community then this one.

Bethesda keeps re-releasing Skyrim (I think we're at like, the 4th or 5th re-release), and is incredibly fun with mods as well, even the ones from the in-game manager are nice additions. The DLCs are fun and it has a decent story, plenty to do with or without mods but it will grow stale more quickly imo with less to do then Zomboid. Very hard to compare though since they're extremely different games. Skyrim and Zomboid are easily my two most played games of all time (though most of my skyrim time wasn't done on steam). Skyrim isn't really sandbox and making your own decisions with unforseen consequences like in Zomboid. It's an Americanized RPG experience through and through and good for a story line and mods but not endless play.

All in all if I had to pick between the two in 2023 I'd likely pick Zomboid, but still pick Skyrim up the next time I could.
do you think i should get zomboid on next sale? And skyrim rn, as i heard game is far from release so i have some time

Zomboid won't be fully finished for years, but it's still more complete then most AAA games these days. Sales for Zomboid don't happen very often, and they plan to raise the price as more content is added. If you want Zomboid at all, my opinion and suggestion would be go for Zomboid since they'll add more content and raise the price as they do. Skyrim stays the same price basically always, and Bethesda does way more sales. In the long run it MIGHT cost you less to get Zomboid now and Skyrim later. But I can't make your choice for you, it is your choice.

PS. Zomboid has taught me both the definition of pain and the addictive feeling of overcoming a challenge in ways other games just don't achieve. It's infuriating but because of that it feels AMAZING when you finally overcome not being able to live for a day, week, month, season, and so on.
i know what pain is, i played through ng+3 on dark souls without cheesing strats. not as mage.
Also, decided to get skyrim as its on discount rn and probably get zomboid on next major sale. I also have dying light, so i could get a bundle (pz + dying light) which means cheaper pz. Summer sale is in 40 days i guess, i can wait, thanks for your tips tho friend.

fallout is one of my fav games, and zomboid idk feels too realistic for me? im not that much fan of survival games ( dont starve is exception). As i said already, i decided to get skyrim first, but thanks too!

Sorry, I'd been writing the reply for so long your message didn't come through until I sent mine lol. If that's how you feel about survival games and realistic games then it definitely sounds like you'd enjoy Skyrim more. Well, hopefully I still helped in some way lol

Hard decision as they're both completely different types of games in terms of style and both are great fun fun FUN.

Skyrim is well, skyrim, I always enjoy the franchise, glitches and all. I love Bethesda games !

Project zomboid every game is different I don't think I have ever had a game that was like the last one. The replay value alone is relatively high; I think i have like 2800 in the game now since 2014. I occasionally play in between other games and irl hobbies. A game I always find myself coming back to. This is their baby so its going to remain in early access for a long while, which is fine by me to be honest. I think its been cool watching the game and community grow into what it is now.

Build 41 was just finished in December. That being said npcs , crafting overhaul , etc will not be out for many months. So if you has are have a hard time setting goals for yourself and looking for more late game content I would just wait and play skyrim. Or wait until the game goes on sale and give a try.

Combat is a little different than other games, this was my first I think it is called Isometric? Correct me if I am wrong I am a noob lol. It can take time to get used to.

The modding community is great there seems to be a mod for anything from clothing to weight reduction mods to maps to plushies to to to food mods tooooo car mods. I would take a look around on there just to get an idea of what available. In terms of skills if you do not want to lose your skills on death, I have a friend who prefers this playstyle, there is a skill journal mod that lets you keep your skills.

One of the best things about PZ is the sandbox settings if you find you are leveling too slow for your playstyle you can change the XP rates. If zombies are too easy you can change their toughness, speed, or make it so they can open doors. Loot tooooOOo abundant ? Change the settings. Don't want to play with zombies just disable them. Transmission too flustering for you? Change the settings.

Hope that halps :3

It's isometric but the controls are very different. Many people have issues with it, most get used to it. Factorio plays more like a top-down shooter then an isometric combat game.
i disable bugs in factorio most of the time, they are annoying, so yes i dont fight much

The hardest part of zomboid combat to get used to for me was the angling. Hard to think isometrically when not used to it, and I almost always avoid isometric games so Zomboid was pretty tough getting used to.
i see! Downloading skyrim rn, found plenty of great mods on nexusmods but im going to disable it for first playthrough. Any tips?
