What do you think of mods to keep your skills or recover them after death?
I know this can be controversial among casual players and hardcore players but i'd like to know your point of view. :yolo:

I use it to recover only a small amount of EXP to certain skills. Mostly for roleplay purpose. The previous survivor's legacy carried on by the next survivor and whatnot.

If you feel like you are cheated by the game and want to cheat back, might as well use debug mode and give your survivors the skills you want to give them.

the game is designed to make the player take risks in order to level up and become stronger. keeping xp in all skills removes punishment of death and danger, this game also being a roguelite (or whatever idk)

Would be fine if you didn't die due to TOTAL BS.

Rooms filled with zombies (aka bathrooms/porta potties etc)
The new (was new) car door mechanic is HORRIBLE, and should really have a car animation to show it.

wounds are really dumb, a scratch on your arm/hand basically rules out any fighting...because apparently a scratch cripples you, but a full on laceration to the head does nothing.

Also, Fire kills you WAAAY to quickly, but takes like 20min in game to kill a zombie.

Don't get me wrong the game is fun, but until things like that are fixed/re balanced I'll play with the journal mod.

I don't mind it in multiplayer where you don't have the luxury of dying and losing 10 levels of Carpentry and then loitering somewhere else at 4x speed building it back up, holding your group back, etc. Nobody likes playing with friends who have leagues higher skills while they're stuck with no skills and nothing to do, at least I don't.

In singleplayer I'd rather just restart, since the funnest part is the early game anyway, at least right now. Maybe that'll be subject to change in the future I.E when you've got a dog to grow attached to, although maybe not - imagine dying and coming back to your house only to find out your dog is now hostile and feral towards you, because you're no longer "you" anymore. Would you want to continue in that situation? NPCs as well, of course. I doubt they'd be pleased to meet your clone.

It definitely leads to more careless behaviour though, I've noticed that with my friends over time, although that could also be in part due to experience too, I guess.

Doesn't bother me if people use it, though. Doesn't the Skill Journal have like a million subs at this point? At this point it feels like not using the journal makes you an outlier, lol.

Used a "journal/skill recovery" mod one once, I felt like an imposter in my own world when I dropped my new character into my old base.

It just doesn't sit right with me...you'd be better off scum-saving every session if your character/game is that important to you IMO.

Is your game, don't let people tell you how to play. I play permadeath>delete world and I don't think less of you if your character can revive or learn from your dead ones

The last couple runs I did I used the skill journal. Though honestly I tend to play super cautiously and think I’ve used the journal maybe once due to a weird animation thing that got me bitten. Out of the last maybe 5-6 runs I’ve done, I only got bitten that one time. I tend to survive long enough to the point where I get bored and just stop playing for a few months.

I think the journal mod is best for the lore/role play/story/etc aspect rather than use debug mode. But either way, it doesn’t matter, right? I just keep journal mod on and if I don’t want to use it I don’t have to.
