Is this game the Sims/Rimworld with Zombies?
Hey, I've always heard of this game but always thought it was just some shallow mobile shootem up type game. I never realized the depth it has until someone recommended it.

I recently purchased a game called Stranded: Alien Dawn which is still quite shallow and lacks some depth so I was hoping for something else. Is this game essentially like the Sims where you manage the needs of your character and others while trying to build up a a safe haven for you and any other survivors? Are there other survivors in the town?
Do you find this game gets boring, for example what are your goals?

Typically I'd imagine myself trying to establish a safe part of town with other survivors and watch as they socialise, interact and strive to rebuild while also coming under attack. Then bit by bit rebuild the entire town and take it from the Zombies. Is type of play possible? Thanks

It's the Sims meets George Romero's zombies with hardcore survival.

NPCs aren't added in yet, but close.

So what do you do, for example what is your goal? Do you ever get bored?

Also are there different types of Zombies that are stronger?
Also are there any other people in the town at all?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to understand fully what it is

I would say it is more of the Sims, less of the Rimworld. Its sandbox where you don’t have much of purpose, other than just stay alive, as long, as you can, but that may change later with new updates. You have to take a proper care of what your character does, a one tiny mistake is game over essentially. No quests, no NPS, just you and zombies, but again, this is temporary

You start a game, spawn in a house or somewhere related to the occupation you choose when creating your character.
Then your only goal is to survive.
You need to eat and maintain your weight, drink, avoid things like bad mood (depression) to deal with very slow actions speed, avoid over heat or freezing (summer/winter), etc.
Sub goal to surviving for most people is making yourself a base of some sort and stockpiling your stuff here. You can farm, fish, trap to get some food. Make your base safer. FInd a generator, getting some gas and having your electricity.
Another sub goal is leveling up your skills. There is quitea few of them, even if some of them are right now totally useless and some other very powerful.

Zombie stay the same, the number of zombie peak after some time (setting can be changed).

You are alone, unless you play MP/COOP.

If you kill Zombies in an area do they eventually respawn, for example can I liberate the entire town?

So when you guys get your character to a sustainable Area of food, security and shelter what are your goals?

What main ones do you recommend?

By the time you get to the point of being able to reliably do this on vanilla settings, you'll probably have dozens or hundreds of hours already. Then you can play around with the sandbox settings to make things much more difficult, or you can jump into the modding scene.

Explore and build/set your own goals are the big two for me. The map is huge and after hundreds of hours I still haven't seen most of it.

Depending on when you start, prepare for/survive winter would be a later goal.

Clearing out all zombies on the map is a fun one too, if you have respawn off.

I also like to build multiple bases in different areas to make travel around the map easier and safer.

But the biggest thing is that there actually isn't anything obvious to do eventually. It gets you into a contemplative mode at some point. The world is there, it's huge, very detailed, but you are alone in it. So what do you do? What matters?

This is only fun for so long, though, and I find if you buy into the premise of "this is how you died" then you eventually do die.

A better way to play, IMO, is to roleplay as your character and ignore what you know about the game/world. Sure, YOU know the world map is limited and nobody is coming, but your character doesn't. Wouldn't he want to explore the world, check out hospitals and police stations in hopes of finding some information about the outbreak that wasn't public? Wouldn't he try to find some sort of long-range communications to see if anyone else in the world is alive? Wouldn't he try to follow up on every Annotated Map he discovers in hopes of there being another survivor fortified somewhere?

I mean it goes without saying if you are playing the game 24/7 with no breaks in between the game can get stale. HOWEVER I will say this is easily one of my top 10 games of all time, I think i have over 2700 hours in the game since I purchased it back in 2014. I play the game inbetween other games.

The replay value alone adds countless hours of playtime that doesn't include changing the sandbox settings, which can be tailored to your own personal preference, or the workshop which has a mod for different tastes and varieties for everypony.

There are maps you can download which add-on to the main knox map.

Multiplayer is pretty fun, i never much cared for it until it was added 2 years ago, if you are into mp it is pretty dang fun.

There is no real endgame rightt now so if you are looking for endgame content i would maybe wait until build =42 comes out which there is no eta.

The game overall is great with everydeath you learn something and each experience i can say has never been the same, always some new way to die lol.

If you are intereseddede in the upcoming features I would check the blogs there some really cool exciting shtuff coming.

LASTLY the community here and discord is great. Very helpful with answering any questions you have about the game. :3

Whether zombies respawn (and the conditions under which they can do so) is an option in the world settings when you start a new character.

You're going to take dozens or hundreds of hours to get a character into real sustained security, so you'll likely get your money's worth before you even need to think about that.

For me, I like setting long-term goals that force me to go out and take risks. My current run I started in West Point with very high pop and have slowly been clearing it. Eventually I want to stage outside of Louisville, then push in and secure the distillery as a forward base to eventually clear enough zombies to make it to the art gallery and fortify that as a permanent home. I expect that to take at least 100-200 hours to accomplish.

i saw this game maybe 5-6 years ago and every time i thought "ugh.no. dont like the graphics and it seems to be boring."

then bought it and now 1000+ hours..
my alltime fav game...

you should know that it took me around 100 hours to "not die every 10 mins" :-)

stay strong!

I was undecided on this game for years and finally bought it last summer. It is firmly one of my top ten games of all time and go through periods of addiction to it.

Sandbox settings give you a lot of control over the game plus there are tons of mods.

Highly recommend.

wouldnt recommend it until they add NPCs. Game feels pretty unfinished once you get good and stop dying at the start

Stranded Alien Dawn is a knock off of RimWorld. RimWorld has tons of replayability, and doesn't get old fast.
This game also has tons of replayability. There are a large number of players with 1000+ hours. I can easily see myself getting that many hours under my belt as I almost have 200 in under a month, and I'm still going strong.
