How to be admin of my own server?

I created a dedicated server for my friends to play.

However I can't put myself as admin. The setaccesslevel command doesn't work and I don't know how to login with admin.

To log in as admin I have to put admin and the password when connecting to the server, but then my character's name stays as admin.

Isn't there a way to log in as admin but keep my character name?

Are you sure you are using the command correctly? It would be
/setaccesslevel "Username" admin

The username is case sensitive, and the quotation marks need to be used.

You must create an account by logging into it first then you have two choices
1) alter the database from the database viewer from the default admin account and set your account level to admin.
2) type 'setaccesslevel "Philippus" admin' from server console. (Assuming this is the "username" field account that needs to be admin)

You first need to log into the admin account and run the command from there. Since based on the error you got, you first logged in your non admin character and are trying to give yourself permissions?

You can also use the server console with the same command.

Got it, I thought I could do everything with the Philippus playable user, just by logging in with the password I set for the administrator.

Okay so I log in with the admin account and then I grant admin access to my own Philippus account.

It works for sure, I've tested it. I started messing with multiplayer a little while ago.

How do I change the admin username on my private server?

What do you mean exactly by "private server" and "admin username"?
The "admin" account always has to exist. And if by "private' you mean the server hosted through the Host menu, then the one who hosts is always an admin.

private server - I mean the server I'm hosting on my computer to play with my friends.

admin username - I mean the name of the admin account, because for me to log into it, I have to use admin plus the admin password. I would like to change this "admin" to "Philippus".

I checked in videos that there is a customization panel for servers hosted by companies, such as GPORTAL, where you have the option to change this admin username and password, thus changing the way to log in as an administrator on these servers.

As the server is hosted on my own computer, is there any way I can change this within the game or by editing a file in the server installation?

You have already given admin permissions to "Philippus" have you not? Now when you log in with that username then you should have admin powers on that account as well.

Yes true. Is this access permanent even after shutting down or restarting the server?
