It's actually a good point about mods on multiplayer. Frankly one of the tells people don't know what they're doing is they go overboard on mods. While it's possible to have a ton without breaking things, it's always a risk and you really, REALLY have to be absolutely sure you're only grabbing legit stuff. Which is pretty much never the case when it's a server boasting about all the hundreds of mods they're running.

Best multiplayer server I've ever been on (and it's still running by the way, with loads of players) had just a couple dozen, with ninety percent of the heavy lifting done by a single custom mod. If any of them are updated it automatically gets fixed every three hours. But, this kind of thing is very much the exception.

Same here, I'm thinking about creating a server for players who want to focus more on construction, crafting, and so on. Zombie population will peak after one year, with time set to real-time for a slow progression until the end. I hate having to download a ton of mods, only for the game to crash because it can't handle all of them.

I had some more thoughts on hosting. At first, I was struggling with how to set up the free points people get to create characters. Then, I realized that people's egos would ultimately lead to their downfall. Most negative traits would soon be overcome by people who learn to get over the fact that there is no more power or Burger King (my favorite). So, I would look for mods that allow the removal of traits over time. In real life, if this were to happen, those who cannot adapt would perish within 3-6 months. A smoker can give up smoking in real life, and the physical withdrawal lasts about four days, but the mental withdrawal is all ego and takes much longer.

The game feels half-polished, and they make things unrealistic by trying to be realistic. I can reach peak strength in three months by eating steaks and working out. The game is not up to speed with the latest science. You cannot get fat by just eating meat alone, just try it and you cannot die from eating just meat we have done it since our existence... Carbs from plants make people fat, refined sugars etc. You can argue all you want on that, but I do not like the idea that I need to eat plants to avoid being overweight as it does not make any sense to me. I cannot eat those foods in real life as they trigger autoimmune problems that cause my heart to give me chest pains, and so on.

I can eat a raw steak just fine also thank you very much...

Well this is the problem, most servers are at least 100 mods, this can take time to download. One server I won't name I spent like 1 hour or so downloading 15 gigs of what? Of course it didn't let me connect at all due to timing out... Now I could understand some mods that add some more vehicles for more carrying capacity to make the game a bit less tedious, or adding some new weapons or maybe even a custom map.

I just don't get the draw of putting all your eggs into a multiplayer basket when you don't even have a full game
This game is very fun with balanced server settings, progression from easy to hard is key imo. Not just spawn then spend 30 - 60 minutes being chased then killed because you needed some water or food... The amount of zeds on these typical servers is unrealistic for such small towns, I really do question the sanity of these server admins.

Agreed with the whole too many mods on many servers, I wanted to try a public one out for awhile but didn't bother even if I already had all of the mods already, it just seemed like a pain in the butt to get set up for and I wanted a community that was good for both veteran and new players, close to vanilla but some flare added.

Luckily like you though I did end up finding a server that was light enough on mods (they too use some custom mods to lighten the load and keep everything running nicely) to where new players could feasibly join but also had just enough to keep veteran players like myself interested. The community is full of great people and it's active enough to queue sometimes even with 30 slots available, my point here to anybody reading is : The server you are looking for might exist already, it just might take some work to find it so please don't give up the hope of finding or even making the Zomboid community that is right for you.

I'll make one if people want it, will cost like 300+ pound sterling per year or something. No problems to me, donation for next year will be set but no one has to pay anything. I just want a none mod server with light roleplay or just pure pve to avoid dealing with trolls. Can use mods to auto reset zones for vehicles etc, can even make the mods my self. Just need enough people interested and what they would like on a server.

More on mods, i want the ability to spawn mass hordes for event driven content, so that in general the server is chill but has events that are a challenge that might result in one or two deaths depending.

But I would always reward people that participate in events in some way to lighten the blow, such events are fun and rewarding imo, just a dead server with everything broken all batteries removed by trolls from cars is game breaking as well as all the pointless mods so people can be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ furry or what ever, no one that paid for this game gives a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toss about...

also can do pvp in either light roleplay or no rules but there will be server rules, coming to disrupt will = ban. such as removing batteries from cars, basically doing anything that only makes sense if you want to ruin the enjoyment of others you will be kicked and banned.

One could argue that they do not wish people to drive etc, but really it ruins the game because things start to become tedious, then its no longer a game its a job... that only the try hards with no life outside of gaming take upon them selves to boost their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ youtube channels. Stop supporting such fascists and these things will no longer exist.

I'm a nice guy, do not prevent me from being a nice guy or else.
