None are hard, they are just tiresome.
Farming you gotta wait weeks-months depending on the seed
Fishing right click simulator to grab trash or fish
Trapping place trap and wait in-game hours. You could or could not catch something while losing the bait and even the trap but animal proteins are usually worth it long run
Fishing is weird. Supposedly fish is a superfood, but game treats it like it is a piece of sugary cake. You will be hungry and getting fat at the same time. Much more labor intensive than farming. Requires finding bate, fishing at the "fishy" hours.
Trapping is the most labor intensive. I really hate counting tiles from my base to "rabbit" patch. you have to mind times and check traps. Birds are easy, but not that good and rabbits while giving more meat are not that fatty. If you have lard, or oils it is not a problem, but on the long runs with scarce loot, just trapping is not enough.
IMO, best approach for long term is to combine all three, but farming + fishing will do in a pinch.
Fishing is not great yet, but i think it will be soon.
But trapping is the better skill.
pros
1.Less time consuming.
2.Generates carpentry.
3.provides food same or next day
4. control over what u catch
fishing
cons.
1. time consuming.
2. what will i catch?
3. generates carpentry (optional) or 1 x
farming
1. large delay before a food yield
2. too easy for an amateur
Fish Trapping.
I say Fishing and Trapping quite balanced, when fishing has control over what you will catch the balance will be there. They will be equal same day delivery, full course meal.
Talking about trapping
Expensive trapping requires fresh food
so it needs a farm established, or initial fresh loot supply.
Cheap trapping just needs some twine some sticks and a worm.
You do it for the cheap trap. While i would argue you should exist primarily off of loot, such as flour and bread, and advanced cooking craft. while you should source your starvation savers from trap. Because
Fishing requires i base somewhere specific, or i go some place specific. while i can put a bird trap on the roof anywhere. And bird traps fairly cheap, its a sturdy stick economy the wood cost of a bunch of them is nothing, so even if u had a set up where u had limited access to trees for chopping, you can still scrape by with the traps.
Advanced trapping require established farm, for rabbit and stuff. This a differnt ball game, at this point u didnt even need to catch the rabbit because the established farm should out provide your hunger and weight gain needs. Though u might keep rabbit in a freezer though for example. While bird meat is generally insignificant it is at least throw-away, it doesnt matter if it go bad because next day you'l catch new ones. Not always teh case for wabbit.
You should have built composters! That’s your storage bin for rotten food! Those worms make a fishing trip.
It’s the only way to acquire excess worms!
Not until the fishing shop has a can of worms ! Which when opened give 99 worms! Not until that day, the only way to get worms without going out to dig is to use the composter. But even if you had no worms you can just dig to get one or two. But real success in my opinion is having a huge worm farm with hundreds of worms.
