Can't attack or shoot through wire fences?

I thought that the entire point of the big and small wired fence was that you can look through and attack through it, but neither gun nor melee registers through the chainlink. Is this a bug, because the wiki says it very much should be working, and it's very aggravating to have to hop my custommade fences that I'm supposed to be able to hide behind just to stop zeds from breaking the fence down. Why the hell do the zombies have to hit the fence instead of just pathing around by the way, they treat the player made fences completely differently than the map ones even though they share the same damn texture, but more importantly why is this ♥♥♥♥ not working like it should? Did I miss something?

I've found that I can shoot zombies through fences that are away from the fence, but if they are pressed up against the fence then they can't be targeted.

I think its a bug.

Maybe I have a mod which fixing this without I know about it, since I don't experience the same.
Also. I can stab through fences with any polearm (spear).

Yes I can stab through fences too, its just guns I can't use if the zombie is too near the fence.

Its possible that Britas/Arsenal mods are breaking it but thats just me guessing based on the fact they change how guns work.

Nah.
I'm big fan of guns, I can't imagine the game without Britas pack (previously ORGM, but Brita is better). So definitely not Britas mod breaking it.

Metal bar fences let you attack through it, never bothered with chain link fences.
