Gaining traits?
I get getting traits like Fit with fitness skill, but do you get traits like Wakeful when leveling up?

No you don't. The only traits you can gain, in vanilla, are related to fitness/strength and weight.

For clarification and my curiosity; does this mean if I take the overweight/underweight like traits, and then lose/gain the weight to the ideal weight while playing, that the trait will go away (without modifying my +/- skill points)?

Pretty much. You can remove overweight/underweight with a proper diet. The fitness point the traits removes you have to grind yourself. Reason why people like to take underweight, it is easy to get rid off early on.

Thank You.

You can even get to Stout and Fit. But you will not get an XP boost like when you take them at the char creation. Any trait which removes the 125% XP boost to fitness and strength makes levelling them up nightmarish without mods.

Regarding dynamic traits mods, they are not perfect. ETW mod is OK, it makes easier to become a super survivor. Dynamic Traits Mod is pretty balanced, except the Vagabond trait. It is kind of broken as you keep finding food in the garbage containers. Combined with scavenging mod (multiplies the found items if it procs) it is quite ridiculous.

I want to add to this. What the OP and answer is talking about are the PZ 'adaptive traits'
Strength/Fitness Trait
0-1 Weak/Unfit
2-4 Feeble/Out of Shape
5 None
6-8 Stout/Fit
9-10 Strong/Athletic

Negative traits Obese and Overweight can be removed by losing weight or obtained by gaining weight. Negative traits Underweight and Very Underweight can be removed by gaining weight or obtained by losing weight.

Many early players make the mistake of thinking they can take weak, and just pump iron to get to strong, but without xp multiplication mods, even getting 1 point in Str is hell, let alone maxed. There are plenty of reddit threads devoted to the math, but your looking at "its possible, but will take months or years in-game for points after lvl 5" and you're more likely to stop playing.

In earlier builds, there were rumors that you could gain other traits, like Brave, after killing X number of zombies, but I never confirmed this, nor could find anything about other adaptive traits.
