Is hacking an issue on MP?
Most recent Thursdoid mentioned making things more server-side in MP. I assumed they're just future proofing since PZ's becoming more popular, but is hacking something that's just expected on the servers? Feel like it wouldn't be worth it since that would suck most of the challenge out of things imo.

I have no idea if this is something to worry about since I exclusively play SP. Would be nice to know if I ever actually look into MP.

Not really. I run a server but also play so I make sure people pass the vibe test before giving them the password.

Got 10 players so far and no one has been toxic.

This community is not one that hackers and griefers last long in, cause it's easy to perma ban people from a server

Depends on how you define it. You aren't diddling source code or anything if you drop 1000 nails on the floor and cause a memory leak from too many items for the server to handle, but you are exploiting a programming vulnerability. If you break the game in whatever manner it is certainly griefing though, and griefing is absolutly an issue in multiplayer. It can be stopped without too much difficulty if the person running the server knows what they're doing, even without screening players. Turn off fire spread, use the valhalla anti griefing mods, make sure containers can't be disassembled and moved as that breaks item spawn, ensure safehouses can't be looted but have them automatically freed after extended inactivity. Same with vehicles of course. You might want to have vehicles respawn as with a lot of players you eventually end up with all the engines destroyed.

There is ONE griefing technique that can't be fixed unfortunately. I only mention it here because I guarantee you all the bad actors already know it, and all things considered it isn't that massive an issue. More frustrating than anything else. Claiming residential buildings on the floor above important commercial buildings. Hardware store in West Point is a classic example. Even if the server blocks making non-residential a safehouse, it doesn't work against second floor apartments. And once it's claimed it both prevents any other players accessing what's below, as well as mucking up item respawn permanently.
