Sync issue and possible solutions
Hi all. When playing with friends in multiplayer, sometimes there is a desync(friends teleport from one point to another, or just run into the wall).

The problem is quite popular, because apparently the multiplayer itself is not yet perfect. Please write in this discussion all the possible solutions you know, so I and the other players can at least mitigate this problem.

My server:
  • 3 players
  • 10gb RAM
  • Internet all players are more or less normal (ping about 20-30)
  • Playing with mods

Is it a locally hosted server? The desyncs may be caused by your PC going out of memory in that instance. Since you need to allocate the memory to both host the server and run the game for yourself.

You probably need 32GB RAM if you allocate 10GB for your server?

Yes, I host the server on my PC. I have 16 GB of RAM, I allocate 10 GB to the server, considering the total number of players of 3 people. Can this not be enough? Maybe for 3 people I can allocate less memory per server?

I might be completely wrong here, but from what little I know the issue lies not in the server's allocated memory but in your own machine's ability to fulfill that.

I recall Windows itself takes about 2GB of your PC's memory to run. Then the game itself takes about 8GB in order to run smoothly. Then on top of that, you allocate another 10GB for the server.

So basically the game's MP server, the OS, and the Zomboid game itself might be having a little resource wars for your RAM.

Maybe I can solve the RAM shortage problem by using a swap file? I have a 500gb SSD

I'm unsure about that. Maybe you can also try lowering the server's memory allocation instead. AFAIK, 3GB is enough for a server to run smoothly.

I hope one of the devs or someone more well versed can give some more insight to this.
