How to quickly handle corpses near the house?
Burning with fire is not an option as it might catch the house on fire...

Currently, dealing with corpses is "too complicated."
Picking up the corpse → Scrolling all the way down in the item menu → Dragging the corpse.
And it leads to poisoning over time...

There's a setting for corpse disappearance time in the game. What does that number represent? Does setting it to 1 mean 1 hour in-game?

How long does it take for maggots to appear on a corpse?

Is there any MOD that can help with quickly handling corpses?

Try luring them into a road outside your house/base and killing them there. Just right click and pickup body, drop them all into a pile. The maggots are nice for fishing, just put them in a mailbox outside your house near the pile of corpses. Maggots will spawn on the dead bodies, but you can also use the investigate mode to find them around the bodies, so you don't even have to go into the corpses inventories looking for them. More spawn around the bodies than you will find inside the corpses inventory BTW.

I actually use an auto looting mod for zombie corpses. Gives me the useful stuff automatically without having to sift through inventories at all, like socks & gloves for sewing, maggots, electronics, seed packets, weapons etc.

AFAIK, it's real time ticks (in minutes if I recall) for the decomposition time.

I usually crank up the despawn.

You're overcomplicating the corpse moving process according to the text in the OP; You dont need to drag and drop from your inventory.. Right click-> Grab Corpse, Move to where you want it, Right click the ground-> Drop Corpse. No need to fiddle with the inventory unless you're trying to use a backpack to move multiple corpses at once (which is more trouble than it's worth).

And if you really want to do it via the inventory, change the order your inventory sorts in; If it's all the way at the bottom, then changing the sorting method will put it at the top instead. Move corpses till you're done, then change the order back.

For corpse disposal, I just find a shovel and dig a grave. Each one can hold five corpses, no muss no fuss. Also gives me a reason to be thorough and go through all the inventories for loot and clothes to rip up.

And I, for one, play on settings where corpses don't despawn. Ever. So yeah, gotta get rid of 'em.

I use a mod that lets me dissect corpses which also levels first aid.

Superb survivors NPC mode is best for this kind of chore.
Use debug/cheatmenu, there is a delete mode, choose remove corps option, make sure you don't delete anything you don't want to.
And you have found the sandbox setting, the number # means # hours in game time. And you can change it in a on going game by a mod, not sure the name but something like 'change sandbox setting in game'.

Bikini tools is a handy mod for automating the more boring aspects of the game. I was pretty reliant on it in a server with massive zombie populations and very slow decomposition time. Waaaaay too many to be dealt with by digging graves, I ultimately just set up campfires on the corner of every block for convenient cremation.

Right click on the dead zombie and choose pick up, walk some meters away, right click on the ground and choose drop corpse.
No need to enter ur inventory.

if you have a gas canister and a lighter you can burn them on asphalt~ its not spreading over ive tested. only 1 tile burns and every zombie corpse in this tile will be burnt in ashes in matter of second even under the heavy rain. maybe the same applies to burning corpses on dirt, just get rid of the grass tiles around cause they are catching fires easily in real life and its recommended to clear zone around "campfire"

I prefer the Elgin Street sweeper mod. It lets you clean the streets of all those pesky corpses and gathers their loot for ya!
