i know it sounds pretentious to say "just get a windows PC", as i am sure many people don't actually have that amount of spare money just laying about, but the sad reality is that we live in a capitalistic society, where things cost money, and gaming is just another hobby that we spend money on.
oh, your hobby is cooking? well, of course you can do just about anything with a microwave, but having a decent kitchen is really better if you are planning on roasting a turkey.
oh, your hobby is knitting / tailoring? of course you can do some funny things using selfmade thread from plant fibers you found in the wild or dust bunnies you found at home under your couch, but don't expect these pieces to be comfortable.
oh, your hobby is gaming? of course you can run some games on the industrie's equivalent of an overpriced graphics calculator. just don't expect to have any fun with it.
with all that being said, even a relatively cheap windows office laptop can usually run zomboid pretty well, as it is one of the most optimized games i'Ve come across (apart form factorio). just be sure to get a mouse that can deal with both of it's mouse buttons being pressed simultaneously :D
As for getting a PC.... , older apples ARE pc's they are intel platforms, you can dual boot or run VMware
and Apple silicon can now emulate intel..., certainly for this game with a frame rate of 300 fps on a mac, it can easily handle a slower emulator.
