“The Connection is Made” is a completely waste of time
Do we really need a factory production line in a zombie apocalypse?
In the video devs showed a orange juice production line.
I wonder who will consume all these orange juice? All by player himself? Having a orange juice party with zombies? See, if we have some npc system yet, we can at least let npc companions to drink up all this orange juice.
Also the wooden plank production line makes me confuse. Since the most time consuming part of plank production is cutting down the tree, and hauling all those logs. And if devs can finish 42 update and quickly move to npc system developing, it will be much more helpful to PZ plank industry, rather than some factory production line.
Frankly speaking, 42 update would have been delivered couple of months ago if devs stop wasting time on these nonsense.

I will drink all the juice

Because Build 42 is the foundation of NPC, like occupations and traits overhaul is needed to set up NPC stories

for some reason, i would vote against turning the game to be factorio with npc and zombies

You forgot to read this part

"PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VIDEO IS FROM A DEVELOPMENT TESTBED.

There’s no guarantee any of this will make it into B42, and likewise they are all built from random tiles that Turbs has nicked from our industrial sprite collection. This is all a part of testing the speed and simplicity of creating new machines – and from that underline how powerful the new system is.

Everything seen in this vid was put together with minimal specific code – and largely relied on existing components put together within the machines in the PZ script files along with new items and recipes."

You have a point there

So Zomctorio is easier than NPC. Maybe someday when there's some kind of cheaper massive AI api which can be introduced into PZ then we can get our ideal NPC, hope that'll be soon.

They took the path of least resistance. I'd rather have everything in B42 first before some half broken NPCs that change every time I use them. This is Zomboid, not Call of Duty. Quality > quantity.
I'd rather the game's NPC mechanics could be provided as paid DLC. If Raccoon doesn't take this important step, it will continue to lose players over time. If you don't do the right thing because of the difficulty, you will never succeed.

“Make a mountain out of a molehill”
In China, we would say it's a cannon shot at a mosquito. I agree with this opinion, the Little Raccoon company does need to correct the direction of development.

I will politely disagree with the concept of making npcs paid dlc... Not that I especially want them anyway, like sure it would be interesting and stuff I guess but if you want interaction no npc will compare to simple multiplayer which we already have.

Seriously? You don't see how that would be ridiculous? Releasing pieces of the game that should be there at release as dlc would alienate a lot more people than the current method.

Adding all this factory stuff before there is even a reason for it just seems weird to me. The game is still in active development, so you can add different features in and iterate on them. But working on a feature that requires another feature (that you were working on before?) to even make sense, doesn't make sense. Once the NPCs and animals are in, adding something like 'production lines' and what have you in makes sense. Until then, it's just putting dev hours into a functionality that will be practically DOA until the other features are added into the game.

Despite the disclaimer people still get hung up on stuff like the production line.
This showcase was simply cobbled together to illustrate how easy it is to create a new crafting station / machine.
The same happend a while ago with the vending machine when the devs showed off what's possible.
katsuragi Aug 19, 2023 @ 6:00am
please link to your source that shows npcs would ave been ready months ago if not for the new crafting system

WAIT WHAT? You mean the source was your ass?

Indeed it doesn't make sense to make an advanced production line all by yourself, but claiming a sawmill factory and being able to operate the machines for plank production is totally logical. When the power goes out and your character has the nescecarry skills and tools he should be able to rework the machine with belts and axels to operate on rotational energy from a windmill for example.
It'll make the world feel much more realistic and open up creativity when every device in the world be it a vending machine, a radio or factory heavy machinery is operable and able to be taken apart for components which can be combined to make a near infinite amount of other contraptions.
