Protective gear is utterly pointless
I just got cocky and bit by a zombie. I was too relaxed so I'd blame nobody but myself, except that the zombie bit me in the upper torso through all of the following:
- a tank top
- padded long johns
- a padded long sleeve shirt
- a padded Hawaii shirt
- a padded Hoodie
- a reinforced leather jacket
and last but certainly not least:
- a pristine police bulletproof vest, which is now junk.

This is just stupid, there is no other word for it. I get if there is like a 10-20% chance for the Z to bite me through all of the other clothes, the tip of the incisors just barely puncturing my skin.... but no, no nononono you can't bite through a bulletproof vest, no matter what kind of mutation you have undergone.

Sorry you died. Have fun playing the next guy!

I don't gear up anymore, unless I know I will be encountering a real live person in a pvp environment. Bikini and flip flops, but without the cocky or relaxed game play, is every bit as effective. In fact, never ever think you are safe. Don't ever forget, death walks with you at every step.

Yes, but no. This is a flawed mechanic, simple as. Either the vest is bulletproof or it is not, if it is bulletproof, then it is also bite-proof.

Thats okay.

what level is your tailoring and how many % is your protection on each part

imo 70% - 80% is sweet spot, i rarely get scratch/bitten. the only time my character get hurt when they got attacked on hand but that because leather glove only protect you up to 25%

Spare me your attempt at being snarky or cynical or whatever it is you're trying to be.

Instead, post something of merit to the discussion.

You could start by explaining to me how it makes sense that boots offer 100% protection against bites, while a "bulletproof vest" does nothing.

My tailoring was level 6, but it doesn't matter, ignore all the padded clothing, I get that no matter what the chance, even 95%, something can go wrong. Hell, with enough aggression I figure some people with pointy incisors could bite through a leather boot. But a plate carrier? You gotta be kididng me.

Bug, not a feature.

I've been wearing a suit for years now.

I think all the clothes only make sense to protect against cold. Otherwise, it seems that the protective factor is in no way relevant enough to merit the excessive weight of protective gear. It will just tire you out faster, so in effect doing the opposite of what it's supposed to.
Dragon Jul 3, 2023 @ 12:38pm
A single layer of gear is all I generally wear, just for aesthetic/basic protection. You shouldn't be getting attacked by zeds to begin with, and especially in the summer when you don't need the insulation, sweat can really be a huge drain on your endurance and fatigue.

I'll keep a good set or two of clothes at home for cold days/winter but otherwise wont bother with it. A good set of sneakers, shorts and a tshirt (or nothing) is best.

I run an armor build and it just saved me from being dragged down. I jumped into a Military tent and got swarmed by 15 zombies. My Leather Jacket was torn to shreds but worst I got was a Laceration. Without the armor I would of been dragged down and died

Well, just for arguments sake, the bullett proof vest will not over 100% protection, because it only covers a certain part of the area. I think for instance it does not offer protection on the sides. Under your arm part, kidneys and so on.

I am one of players that has been playing without much protection for quite a while now, simply because i prefer, agility, mobility in most games. Usually in most games tank builds cannot really reach the same levels than a mobility, agility, dexterity (whatever it is called in the game) builds. This is similar in this game too.
And actually the tradeoff is much much more severe and the noticibility of it is subtle.

I remember when tailoring was not in game and i was happy to find fireman sets. I relied on them too much until i noticed how much they affect the fighting abilities and speed of my character. With a short blade that time i could easily kill 10 zombies in a conga line, however with that set, if i had 5 zombies near me it was certain death:)

also: backup your saves. Bugs, and other things happen. If you can get this mad because of a game, it is a good idea to make a backup. This way you dont lose much. (And it takes like 5 seconds to make a backup.)

You are right - stupid. Can't stand stupid game design.

OKAY all you fanbois and excusers. Jump on in and claim but, but the game's in early access and its only been in EA for 10 years - cut it some slack.

Thanks, Colonel .
PZ just dropped off my wishlist.

And this, friends and neighbors, is one of the number one reasons why I don't play with infection on. It's all brutal RNG. When the chance to bite is calculated, it rolls against each piece of clothing and protection on a specific spot by itself, not cumulatively. I've been chomped through five layers of clothing before and I find the whole thing ridiculous. Fine, they have super teeth, but 'I' am not going to take a lethal hit from that, thanks very much.

The premise of the post is partially true

Not vs Zombies,

but vs PVP; bullet vest and Helmet is destroyed by a rifle, not sure on opponent skill, but i survived two shots initially, and healed up. THrow my vest on, later that day contact the shooter again , this time in vest and helmet, stitched wounds and shy of full health maybe 10% shy of full health. and bang a 308 round from a 788 two shots i was out.

GG

WP

i was going for a zombie with shades and miniskirt on the loot. Firing from mah window in a secure lockup. I knew the risk. But i did expect to take a shot but maybe the opponents aiming was high.

that was

2 initial shots from ground floor vs second floor, took me to 50% with no vest and helm

later on

2 shots from ground vs ground, 2 shots took me to death :P with helm military and police vest.

see secure lockup ---> few hours before the initial contact

Absolutely beautiful base <3

My solid iron crowbar breaks. Unrealistic.
I do not have to explain the developer's choices in how they built their game.

I spare you nothing. You may ignore me if you don't like me, I don't mind. I didn't write the code or get your character killed.

I concur.

AND...

If you don't like what the developers have done, they allow full modding to make it what you want, by design. I don't care if you don't like that, you can fix anything you think they failed at.

Flawed or broken or nonsense, it is a game with some form of game balance and you may choose to balance it with all the toggles they allow, or mod it out.
