Can confirm from experience. I thought it was fine cause nothing happened for around 50 hours of playing mainly using microwaves and taking over warehouses for free storage. I took over the large warehouse recently in northern muldraugh on a solo, long story short first time I went to disinfect bandages my kitchen lit on fire. I think the ai director just wanted me dead though, I had a neck laceration and got hit by a heli right before the fire happened.

If you plan on using a microwave to disinfect or cook food in metal pots/pans, be prepared for a potential fire (keep extra water containers nearby that you can dump on the fire) I just barely saved my warehouse by using the pot of water I was using to disinfect

As it happens a few hours ago i wanted to desinfect collected water in a sauce pan and big pot in a microwave. I know not to put metal there(irl) but i though maybe the game dont care.
Few seconds later i had a fire in my house, microwave gone, oven gone, bathtub full with water gone and my library of lvl 1,2 and 3 books gone.

Still could be worse, the fire died down and did not burn down my whole house. Memo to myself, never do that again, should have used the regular oven.

They should make a messy sound, even a flashy animation to simulate the situation when you put metal things in microwave oven in real life. But NPC first.
