HOW DOES A ZOMBIE ONE SHOT YOU??
I'd been surviving for days, my longest game, and I was investigating an old Inn.

I didn't get bit, I was at full health, I had a fire suit on and full protection, and literally in an instant I was killed. Is this a bug??

I'd cheat my old character back to life if I could, I feel cheated.

Well. This is how you die.

Haha rookie mistake, just don't get hit and you'll be fine.

Seriously though I very rarely use the firefighter gear. Like if it's raining and I really need the water resistance, otherwise it isn't worth using. The bite resistance isn't high enough to be reliable so you can only count on not getting hit. Movement penalty also makes it harder to keep away from zombies.

Without joking, firefighter suit is a perfect newb trap
Offers high protection, still you can get scratched or bitten, but reducing your movement and action speed significantly.
I can't say a word about this insta kill thing, it's mostly occur on modded games.

But. I can advice you to forget all the protective gears, and focus on to learn avoid get injured. I don't wear any protection (only when I'm play pvp) against zeds, and I can survive years.
Believe me. Mobility is over protection.

Probably Neck laceration, Always hit H the second your are wounded and make sure its not your neck and if it is you got about 5 seconds to bandage it before your dead.

I always keep one bandage on my character that I've Favorited and renamed and never use as a backup and just carry 5 ripped sheets in a backpack to use. more than once I've been caught without something to bandage my neck and have had good runs ended from this simple mistake.

As a long term player I to choose not to use any defensive gear mostly running around in a skirt and a one piece swimsuit or something.

Another way this can happen, is in a sandbox game where "Turntime" of zombie infection is set to INSTANT. When you get scrached by a zombie (7% chance of infection) and you are unlucky and get infected, you die INSTANTLY.

Neck laceration can kill you quickly if not tended, plus you should tell us about your game configurations cause im sure you put turn time instantly...

If you used that mod that specifically adds alternative ways of opening canned food, using a bloody weapon when opening the can can also quietly infect you.

If you got attacked from behind, they can sometimes terminally rip your throat out. Be sure to always have something that protects your neck. (Note, helmets no longer do this, as it was too annoying having them fly off your head.)

If you're not using mods, then know that we're aware of there might be some quirky going on. If you turn transmission off in sandbox it'll probably prevent this, but until we get additional logging in in build 42, we've no real answers as to what's going on.

I do have mods for different clothing, but I had a scarf and a helmet on so my throat should've been protected. Just doesn't seem fair lol

It was the instant the zombie touched me I was dead. From 100% to 0 in an instant, and I never changed the infection settings.

A scarf and helmet isn't a guarantee that you won't get taken out by a zombie instantly. Ever watched The Walking Dead on TV or read any of the comics? There are a bunch of characters over the course of both the show and comics who just get unlucky and are ganked by a surprise zombie.

What happened, anyway? Did the zombie grab you and use the bite animation when it killed you? Did it just hit you with its hands?

I have no idea, I ran into it and instantly it made the death splat and I died.

If you simply run into a zombie without it attacking you and you die, then it's likely to be a mod issue.

Try replicating what you did intentionally and see if the issue is constant. If it is constant then try doing it again but with vanilla game.

It definitely was a bug. I came back there with a new character, my old character was zombified but couldn't get up off the ground, when I killed her I couldn't get my stuff back. Any ideas what would cause an issue like this? I have a good list of mods but nothing that sounds like it'd cause this.
It is mostly about mods the servers use. They bug out big time, somehow. I try to avoid heavily modded servers. Even light modded ones seem to cause serious bugs.

The PZ videos that carry on hundreds of days when the player keeps fighting thousands of zombies as if nothing are heavily modded to make the character invincible. At the end of the video the streamer can change the settings/cut-paste and make it look more realistic. Same as all YT videos or streams, dont take any of those the basis. They re all specially prepared to entertain the viewers.

The vanilla game can kill the gamer so easy without a bug but being intolerable unless he player drops the power of zombies, rear attack-allways critical and at neck. Negative tratis like ill, disease, no resistance to weather effects can also cause that. YT videos and reddit posts about traits are usually as serious as a joke.

I humbly advice to pay attention to your own experiences about avoidance and keeping an eye at the game/server settings.

Sounds like you unfortunately ran into the renowned Zombie martial arts master of the one inch munch :captainclown:

No mercy, no chance

I've had this happen before and I play vanilla 75% of the time. The animations in PZ are jank sometimes, I always assumed it's a bite to the neck but the animation doesn't play properly.
