Realistic Sanbox setting for long term solo game?
Want to find a really well balanced custom setting for starting a new game where I do not feel overwhelmed but the world not feeling too empty. A game I can start and make a good story with.

I just started my own custom game and left some on default settings but I feel like I'm just playing a shooter. lol

It really depends on what you want from the game. After playing around with the zombie population settings, I am happy with 1.0, its manageable but not too easy for my playstyle (I'm going for a Walking Dead style setting a few years into the apocalypse).

I maxed out the settings from zombie rally groups and the follow sound distance, so car alarms and house alarms really cause trouble.

Food, meds and guns are set to Insanely or extremely rare. And because I have the NPC's mod, there will be hostile raiders as an additional threat in a month or so that I am preparing for.
I believe realism is highly optional. It is as if which movie you would like to watch or what type of setting you would like to roleplay at that time.

Playing around mods, changes the entire game. You can nerf everything or nerf yourself and change many things about the game world and the npc types and their abilites.

You may create different settings and jump between different saved games and settings as if watching another movie, at will.

Sticking to a certain setting and playing it just to get satisfied may be pretty dull afterall.

:steamthis: Right here is all you need to know.

Only you can say what is really really best for you. Use the sandbox and just go through each and every option one by one and look at it. Ask yourself, "How does that setting affect what I feel is the best game for me?"

Do that for every setting they offer. What do you want your apocalypse to be? If you don't know what a setting does, look it up to be sure.

Go through all the options and change what you want for you. SAVE it. NAME it.

Give it whirl. If it feels totally nailed, keep playing. If not and you feel it needs more adjustments, load new game, choose your previously named and saved option file, and tweak it a bit more.

Repeat until you are happy with the apocalypse you are going to die in.

Have fun!

These are the settings I like, makes the zombie population threatening but manageable and gives you some breathing space early on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvw-1AFBTXg
