Carpenter + Lumberjack + Electrician + Axe
Mechanic + Metalworker + Farmer + Long Blunt
Tailoring + First Aid + Foraging + Long and Short Blade
Nobody really likes doing Trapping and we've never had time to do any Fishing...and we usually randomly pick one of us to do all of the cooking or just cook our own meals. If we had a fourth player, and they were okay with being assigned a set of skills, then they'd mostly take up the
Fishing + Trapping + Cooking + Spear
role in the group. I think that pretty much covers all of the bases, anyway. We usually all use guns at some point, and we hardly bother with sneaking although the short blade guy usually attempts some when he's off doing solo scouting. The other skills like Sprinting, Nimble, Maintenance etc are personal skills that everyone trains, of course.
Typically we'll leave gathering wood, chopping trees, cleaning shrubbery, hauling and collecting furniture as well as destroying doors, not to mention making planks and managing the tools and supplies to the Carpenter Lumberjack guy, and the Mechanic will be the guy who decides what vehicles we use for the most part, and also does melt-down missions to crossroads where there are lots of burnt out wrecks to collect lots of metal - they're also usually the guy who decides where store rooms go and when and where to barricade. Once we get set up somewhere they'll dabble in Farming a bit. Tailor handles all the clothing stuff, looting zombie corpses, and manages setting up cold, warm and lightweight base clothing outfits for everyone, and once they've got 10 Tailoring and everyone is patched up they'll focus on foraging and such. When time permits they do the bandage changing and also manage the medbay supplies, making bandages and sterilising them, and they also tend to be in charge of the literature and VHS stuff.
It's generally nice not fighting over weapons either, axes get left for the Carpenter dude, Crowbars etc are left for the Mechanic, and Knives and Katanas etc are given to the Tailor...it works out pretty well, with minimal arguments over gear. Don't think I've ever encountered any "gear envy" in the group anyway.
It would be perfect having that special fourth who handled trapping, fishing and spearing plus cooking, but honestly that sounds pretty boring, finding someone who is happy to do that stuff would be nice but I can't imagine they'd enjoy being essentially a housewife, really. That's why those skills, useful as they may be (especially for protein and making nice big meals for weight gain / loss control) tend to be neglected within the group.
Profession wise I have no idea, honestly. None of those seem to matter and usually just come down to personal choice. We always ensure everyone can hotwire vehicles as part of early game training, just par for the course, saves a lot of time and boosts solo mission potential.
The only way I'd be able to improve my team is to encourage certain trigger happy members to not blast everything on sight and make clean up / looting run jobs more annoying than they need to be, really. Just because we've got 100+ boxes of shotgun ammo doesn't mean we need to go loud every single time we loot some place in the middle of nowhere, lol
It'd be cool having a dedicated shooter who was a Veteran or Police Officer who manages the armoury and is the only person allowed to really use the "good" firearms, but in reality that's pretty inefficient, so we all end up rocking shotguns and the armoury gets managed by whoever can be bothered, lol.
One thing il know il do that’s visit an office block with cubicles, or an insurance salesmen get the group some cubicles for makeshift defence while we establish the first strong commune.
What else happens, if it’s possible to do things on the way, or if we have to locate items first, or if we want to do things certain way, like surgically enter buildings, or enter gun shops by roof access to keep the place secure then that’s the kind of thing you plan on the field when everybody is together and we have a sort of base or dump for our useful items
Engineer and Electrician combo would make a great starter team! You can really make those pipe bombs in no time if you know what to look for. I’m sure if you knew what to look for electrician engineer combo with a medic on the side! You’ll need a medic! And for the sakes
Let’s say
Engineer
Electrician
Doctor
Veteran
Once the engineer is manufacturing of course anyone can use the stuff!
So maybe
Engineer
Electrician
Doctor
Nurse
This way if you split up into two teams each of you’s got a healer ;)
