Project Zomboid

Character randomly stopping and stammering
Not really sure why but randomly I have an issue where my character, regardless of weight and condition, will randomly stop walking for a split second then start back up. It'll do this for a few seconds ata time then stop. Walking, running, sprinting, makes no difference. It's like im mashing forward on the joystick as fast as I can instead of holding it.

Playing on a deck if that matters, checked my joystick to see if maybe it's drifting or something, and it doesn't appear to be related to my hardware.

Any ideas? I felt like it was maybe some stat I was missing but it ALWAYS happens and I never see it happen to anyone else playing.

This generally happens if the Steam deck is just overwhelmed, for example if you play on extremely high zombie numbers, or perhaps even the Mall scenario where a ton of zombies are spawned.
No, not the frame rate. My character.
That literally makes no sense...
Why would my character stutter when the deck is "overwhelmed". Which is also not the case, it does not only happen when a lot is going on on-screen.
No, custom with low pop.

I play on steam deck and can verify what you are being told. Turn the textures to the lowest, enable compressed textures, turn off vsync, lock fps to 30. You will see that this then becomes minimal.
Settings are on low, but resolution is 800p (Cryo tools installed and 4UMA buffer enabled)

Just the deck screen, no monitor.

I did about an hour ago and havent seen the issue pop up yet, but it does seem EXTREMELY inconsistent.

Is 60fps an issue with this game? I have the internal FPS limit to 60 and the deck to 60 and I haven't so much as had a single frame drop on me

I would have suggested a wireless keyboard/mouse not getting signal if it wasn’t the deck.

Not sure if this will help anyone at this point but I can confirm using a steam deck and locking fps to 45 fixed this for me. I still get some weird screen flickering since last patch haven't figured that out.

Its not frame rates in the slightest, especially when fighting off zombies, after a while he will start to stammer and stop and go, then they catch up to him and chomp down, game over, but it's not frame rates, I put on highest, lowest, and it doesn't matter, and I run all the games on highest without stammering or studdering or frame drops, and have zero issues, but this game, it seems to either be a bug or it's extreme stress/panic that causes the character to "freak out" a little until you can calm him/her down. Soon as you start a new character it doesn't studder, it just seems to happen when the character has panic/fear/stress.
