How many tines do I need to sanitize a wound?
Like if I get a laceration, scratch, etc. And I disinfect the wound with an alcohol wipe or the the like, and the bandage gets dirty, should I sanitize the wound again, before putting a new clean bandage on?

Or is it fine to just put a new clean bandage on it? I've been using a lot of alcohol wipes, and don't want to risk infection on testing this out lol

Thanks!

Regular infection isn't all that dangerous right now...so you shouldn't be too worried about it. All it really does is make it take longer for the wound to heal.

From what the wiki says, the wipes basically lower the chance of the wound getting infected, or help clear it if it is already. Chance of infection rises when you have a dirty bandage on, and is reduced with sterilized bandages.

I'd guess that unless you find yourself wearing a dirty bandage for long periods of time, one wipe and consistent bandaging should be enough to prevent infection. From experience I also find sterilized bandages are a near assurance you won't get an infection as long as you keep them switched.

First, there's two kinds of infection. Wound Infection, which shows in the health panel, and the Knox Infection, which the game never overtly shows you.

The former of the two is the kind of infection you get from letting your dirty bandages stay on too long- It slows healing, makes it do a bit more health damage while the bandage is off, but overall is fairly mild and easy to handle- Just disinfect it and give it a new bandage.

The Knox Infection is the one that kills you and turns you into a zombie. As mentioned, the game never explicitly tells you when you've contracted this- And you can't contract it from letting your bandage stay dirty.

With all that said, You only need to sanitize if it's infected or if you know you may not be able to change the bandage right away(within an hour or two of it getting dirty? ish, I've never really tested how long it takes to get infected).

Better practice is to just keep the wound in fresh clean bandages(change it once it turns dirty) and prevent the infections in the first place.

There's a guide on First Aid that covers this. You don't need to sanitize anything; infections will not kill you. Ever. It slows the healing process. It's most important to bandage immediately (unless a broken bone). Even with a dirty bandage. Cleaning the wound is only important if it wasn't clean/infected already.

Eating to 'Well Fed' also helps healing. Only do this when you're injured or in need of gaining weight since it'll waste more food.

If the bandage is dirty it simply slows healing/increases risk of infection. Just replace. Basic bandage is just fine.

For small medical kits, Needle and Thread is best because thread has multiple uses, allowing for fixing several deep wounds at once per thread. Rags weigh a fraction of an actual bandage while also being excellent at healing, letting you carry a whole bunch for minimal weight.

Sutures are used up her wound (making them harder to maintain a supply of) and only reduce pain mildly. Bandages weight like, five times the rag amount, so you'd not be able to fit an entire medical kit in say a fanny pack. They last longer before becoming dirty though.

Wild Garlic is your best bet for dealing with an infected wound since it lasts a long time versus other cleaning solutions. Apply and forget.

Nothing will cure KNOX Virus. It's not an 'infection'. Use mods or server settings to deal with it.

Ah that's unfortunate. I'm sure that will be improved though. Thanks!

Use sterilized bandages to have a less stressful post-apocalyptic life. It will automatically disinfect your wound while you let it heal.

Best of all, all you need is a pot of water and fire source. Perfectly reusable.

Like others have said, infection is a very minor ailment. Not worth stressing over.
