Is it possible to have single player multiple characters?
You know like you would hit a key to switch between a different in game character and take control of it then switch back or choose a third and so on?

yes. but not hit a key to switch in game.
log out to main. choose load. choose more... choose new player. create. load in.
next time you play, dont choose continue. choose load. choose yer save. choose what character you want to be.

So in game you can switch between the 2 different characters or every time you want to switch characters you have to load again?
Can it be scripted to do this, like if you have ever played Hidden Deep and you switch between soldier and engineer

load out to main screen. do it there . NOT in game hit a key and poof you are them and your other you is in a closet in limbo? no.

yuo can have as many characters in the world as you think you need. but access is only through game main screen.

Can you script it?
if you care to hack into the code, the game is open for modding, give it a go and try.

I'm only really playing zomboid for my computer game entertainment. It has captured me cleverly with its siren song. Its grip is warm and familiar. I do not fight it, nor let it go. Yet.

State of Decay (I & II) was my zombie game of choice until Indie Stone finally stepped up to my standards and did me a solid with build 41.

Most games anyone mentions, I only heard of them or play seldom. I usually wait to pick up games when they are super cheap (or free on EPIC) and then barely play them.

As a forever DM since D&D red box basic; I also play D&D 5e with my brother and kid, using Fantasy Grounds VTT these days. And recently picked up the mongoose Traveller 2e ruleset to do some gritty scifi role play.

We are going crash our space ship into 1993 Muldraugh Kentucky and discover some weird poops going on. You think finding a sledgehammer is tough in a zombie apocalypse? Wait till my crew has to find the spare parts to fix the jump drive while trying to order a spiffo burger down at the local burger joint.

I tried that EA game SCUM, but it makes me motion sick, so I feel sad I spent money on it.

As I said, choose load a save. It will load that save and not a different one or a new one. But I have absolutely zero knowledge of the other game you are asking about, so maybe?

If you have multiple characters can one starve if you don't use him for a while?

No. Inactive characters will be that, inactive. Like being put in a stasis. But perishable food stored in that character's inventory will rot.
