Do I need to keep replacing dirty bandages every time?
I walked through broken glass barefoot because of a stupid mistake, and now my feet are bleeding constantly. I put one bandage on one foot and then the other and by the time I've done the second foot the bandage on the first is dirty again and so on. Do I need to keep replacing these constantly or is it fine to ignore it for a while?

You can sew up the bleeding wound with a suture needle.

Or you can let it bleed and keep changing the bandages again and again until later some time it will probably stop bleeding.

If you dont change the dirty bandages for longer time (temporarily in short term may be ok) it will most like get infected and you will get sick. If you still let the dirty bandage sit on while wound is infected and you are sick you could eventually die from fever.

Damn, I don't have a suture needle right now so I guess I gotta just keep replacing them and washing them.

Yep, I've stepped in broken glass too in my own home base. Some broken glass I had never cleared up and one day when I had been out in the rain and I was completely soaked I took all my clothes off to dry, including my boots, then suddenly while walking around the house I see my feet bleeding lol

Deep Bleeding wounds cause Bandages to get dirty SUPER fast

You either have to stitch up the wound or have a lot of clean bandages on hand. You can wash dirty bandages to be clean again using clean water

Stitching really helps speed up the healing rate of Deep Wounds too. I played on an MP game once where I didn't stitch a glass wound to see how it went. It took so long I broke my leg and healed it before the Deep Wound became a Scratch.

Always keep some suture needles on you, they get used up: 1 suture per 1 wound stitched afaik

One more thing, if my character gets bitten, does it always tell me in the health menu? Or does it only show me later?

Only if the bite turned into a bite wound. Your clothes can protect a bite from resulting in a wound. But if it resulted in a bite wound then it will always be shown as a bite wound. And with standard default infection settings a bite wound means 100% sure zombie virus infection and later 100% sure death, no way out.

Cool, thanks.

I did something similar once. From then on I keep a spare set of clothes to change into when that happens. I'm also more careful about picking up broken glass. It's good to have contingencies for contingencies though.

Nope. You don't need to change your bandages, and you don't need to worry about infections in the health window either. The only effect they have is causing more pain, and increasing the time it takes to heal.

Really? Is this true? I could have sworn that wounds that turned infected for me if I ignored dirty bandages and didnt changed it ended up giving making me quesy, sick, then fever where eventually my health started draining. It's happened a few times, but I didnt exactly DIE from it, but it got me down to like ~30% or ~50% health. This was from I think scratches or lacerations from zeds iirc.

Maybe I should test walking on glass and just bandage it once and try ignoring it to test this out.

Try it and tell us your findings

Anything anybody says may or may not be true. Even me.
Playing with mods and vanilla, different memories on how things work...all can be possibly true.

You should test things out yourself to be sure. Test against pure vanilla code, for accurate results for "This is how the game works." Not even a car mod. Pure Vanilla code for testing.

If you are modded and test your results, you are testing modded code and can unintentionally mislead or misrepresent game code.

For example:

You don't need to clean you bandages with potable water either; rivers, puddles, and unboiled rain water are fine.

Is this true and accurate? The best way to test this would be to load up a vanilla game, grab a dirty bandage, go to a river and try to clean it. If it works, he is correct. If you can't clean a dirty rag in a river, the information isn't true for vanilla code. It might be correct in a modded game however and it works.

Absolutely. Test stuff out for yourself. Make sure you are testing with vanilla code. Once you mod it, all results are skewed.

I think you can sew up a deep wound with a sewing needle and thread as well.

I am in vanilla game, but don't just tell me okay, you are right. Test it out to see. I might be mistaken or remembering a mod.

*Also make sure to remove any glass shards lodged in your foot if there is any. Use hands or tweezers for that.

Hi. Me again.

I was just in my VANILLA server and was cleaning up some corpses near a lake. Thought I would give a quick easy test for some of the information in this thread.
Not pertinent to OP question, but relating to information given and the need to test things for yourself and understanding vanilla code against modded code.

In a vanilla game, you can not clean bandages with tainted water. rain barrels with tainted water, puddles, rivers, lakes, swimming pools...
