Just found out that generators can explode...
Apparently they dont like it when their condition falls to 20% or lower. I learned the hard way but hopefully someone out there learns the easy way by reading this post.

I'd expect a failure, but not an explosive one.
Did you lose anything else with it?
The first time is always special. Savor this moment

There actually was failure too. When the condition was around 40% it sometimes took multiple tries to turn the generator back on after putting gas in it. Thankfully the generator was near an area of my house where I wasnt keeping lots of stuff. I did lose a small cupboard by the main entrance that I used to store various items. Lost a few tools but thankfully I had extras. I did however loose several exterior walls and will need to work on replacing them.

I didnt actually see the explosion as I was sleeping. While my char was sleeping I heard the boom and initially thought it was just one of those meta game events where you hear a loud noise that attracts zombies. But then I heard an ongoing burning sound and thought "uh oh" :( .

This is on the Kingsmouth challenge - the map has lots of generators, so I can replace them rather than having to fix them.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i just lost an entire world to that. its BS in my opinion, at the very least the game should give you a warning (like on the generators tooltip or something) that says "generators can explode at 20% contidion or lower"

We can repair generators and prevent it from happening. You just need Electronic scrap. 1 scrap to repair 1%. Keep it as close to 100% as you can, you'll never have a serious problem.

Also, microwaves and ovens can also expode >: ]
First time I found this out I lost my base after overcooking the crap out of whatever was in the oven at the time. Some kinda roast dinner. While I was cooking a heli event happened so I naturally got stubborn and held my ground at base. It didn't end well. I got crafted into a snack shortly affter the oven exploded and the main flood of zombies arrived. Went through four meat cleavers and two spiked bats <.< I went down in a literal blaze of glory. mwahahaha.

It's nuclear powered.

Usually it is like this:
If a generator still has petrol and is running and the condition reaches 0%, it can explode.
If the generator runs out of petrol beforehand, it just switches off.
So check it every now and then and repair it if necessary.
