Freezing Vegetable and meat for future use
Has anyone attempted this?
I managed to get two ice freezers for my base and stored sacks of vegetables and meat in them to keep them from going bad,Yet when I grab a Sack of Onions (Fresh) and open a Sack of Onions (Fresh) the Onion says (Rotten) suddenly

frozen containers don't properly freeze their contents.

seriously I think they lasted longer in fridge then the freezer or was it the exact duration? I think the duration was the same for the cupboard and the fridge for sure, yet all my frozen food is bad now and I can only assume the meat is as well.

It's the burlap sack itself that was kept fresh. Eat up, king.

For real, it'll probably only work without the sack. Also, I don't think freezing works indefinitely, if you didn't already know. Although, you can change freezing effectiveness w/ a sandbox setting.

not once you start a game right?
Can you change setting mid game?

There IS a bug involving freezers unloading and loading but I don't remember the details. Something about running off of a generator that was about to run out of power?

Freezers DO usually work to slow spoiling WAY down though, more than fridges.

But like I said the first time: you CAN"T put things into sacks and freeze them that way.

Ther'es also a bug where the displayed status of the food won't update until you move it to your inventory.

Edit: the way to change your settings mid-game is to make a new save with the settings you want and then copy-overwrite the settings into your existing game. Heard there's a mod for it too but also that the mod is prone to bugs.

thanks
I guess I will clean out the freezers
like my eggs in the fridge lasted longer than the vegetables in my freezer

I did get the impression from a source on youtube for long term survival to get a ICE Freezer which is great for storing food.

Those freezers are great, solely because they have way more space than the tiny usual ones.

But having more capacity to store more food means you will have lots of food go rotten before you can eat it. I guess this will have a negative affect on all the farming I have accomplished. I am just trying to prepare for winter and it looks like I best start relying only on canned goods now
Yes you stated it is a bug and thanks for clearing that up but frozen food should last 4 or more times as longer than non frozen. I hope that is fixed
I believe I did set that in my options increasing the life of food in fridges and freezers

I recommend farming potatoes, cabbages are "better" in most regards except they don't last as long before rotting. anything lower than potatoes is a waste of time tho, except maybe strawberries for easy happiness boosts.

You can still farm in the winter...Just keep some seeds unplanted juuuuuust in case ther'es a cold snap severe and long enough to actually kill your crops. I haven't actually had one of those.

I know farming is supposed to have a huge update but as I see it now it is a huge waste of time and effort. Im giving up on my crops and just storing canned food for now

If the fridges lost power, even for a second, everything in it will get rotten tag instantly. At least it happened to mine fridge not very long ago.

good to know, though my fridge and freezers have not lost power

I have never had this happen and I’ve turned my generators off many, many times to repair and refuel them while they were powering multiple refrigerators.

Then this maybe a mod issue. Now I have to figure out which one. Awwwwwesome...

Just ftr; freezing almost any type of vegetable without dicing, parboiling or preparing it in some minimum way will make it rot once it thaws. (ex cucumber and potatoes; soft tissue)

Not saying the game is working as intended or that it wasn't a bug, just that the onions rotting after thawing is fairly realistic. xD
